Does Masvidal have a huge defensive flaw? He made this same mistake which led to the same KO many years ago. This content is protected
Masvidal said he thought Usman was going for a takedown. He says he misread the situation and gave Usman full credit for the way he set up the punch.
Masvidal is a borderline lower top 10 type guy, he never deserved the rematch. THE ONLY fight that makes sense is the Covington rematch, it was a close fight up until the bull**** stoppage, I thought Covington was winning it and yet all I’m hearing is Usman talk Masvidal (prior to the rematch), Wonder-boy and Nick ****ing Diaz. Get the Covington rematch made.
Usman Vs Covington 2 would be brilliant. If Usman wins, I can't see anyone in that division beating him.
Covington is lucky to be getting a rematch , I see the fight ending by TKO again but sooner . Usman will win . Then later in the year Usman takes on Edwards or Thompson .
Let's be serious why is Colby lucky to get a rematch? If the ref didn't save Usman when he was gonna get finished after the Colby legit body kick yet calling it a nut shot, this thread wouldn't even exist
Far better that he had to feign eye pokes and nut shots when hurt. Colby was winning the fight, with a broken jaw up until the premature stoppage. The reason Usman doesn’t want the rematch is because he knows Covington will give him fits in there.
They was good enough to give Usman his toughest fight and imo be winning at the time of the stoppage. Their fight was far better than the first Usman/Masvidal fight and warranted a rematch far more than Masvidal. His dominant stoppage over BurnLootMurder loser Woodley (something Usman couldn’t do) is better than that BMF journeyman title bull**** that Masvidal and Diaz did.
Once again, I think it's the fact that Usman is so good on the ground that opens up striking opportunities for him. You can't just box him or kickbox him. You have to be cognizant of him being very capable of taking you off your feet and mangling you on the ground. This is why the dude is becoming so effective. He's developed to the point where he can hurt you badly with both.
At risk of boring the heck of your guys, I'll expand on this a little This seems often glossed over when looking at a Usman's or even a Khabib's striking skills. Usman has more striking skill than Khabib but the point stands. In a pure boxing match, a Khabib probably is not going to do well. But in a game that allows grappling, suddenly opponents have to be so concerned about being taken down that it makes them vulnerable to getting hit. We saw it in Khabib McGregor and in Usman Masvidol. I do think Usman has more natural explosive punching power than Khabib but my point stands. These guys are so good on the ground that opponents must take that into consideration. They cannot focus on only strikes so they are not as good at defending either.
