Marciano’s was more oval-shaped, kind of rounded. Ali’s is more classic Hollywood chiseled. Nice square jawline. Rocky’s was also closer to the ground when they stood straight up. That’s how I’d compare them.
True, in the first Muhammad Ali vs Henry Cooper bout on June 18 1963 Henry Cooper decked Ali, but in their title bout on May 21 1966, Ali was very wary of Henry's left hook, Ali stopped Cooper TKO 6, no knockdown scored by Henry in that one.
Since we never saw Marciano take a punch from punchers like Foreman, Liston or Shavers, we have to put a question mark by him
That's exactly what happened. He showed Cooper no respect at all and paid for it getting hit by a heavy shot he didn't see coming. Those are the ones that hurt the most. Ali's anticipation and head slipping improved after that and he was more cautious. He was no longer a brash loud mouth young fighter and knew to take guys like Liston, Frazier, etc more seriously. People that insist that his chin somehow got better after 3 years of inactivity are morons.
Dear lord, Ali is the pinnacle of durability in boxing history! The Cooper and Banks KD's we're a young brash Ali and the Smokin Joe KD was at the end of a prolonged beating in the last few rounds over the course of a 15 round fight. Rocky Marciano? who was the hardest puncher he fought? Walcott???
It's a funny one tho, looking at Walcott s punching power. He's the only man to have dropped Joe Louis, Ezzard Charles and Marciano. And of course he actually stopped Charles. Yet he's not up there with a rep as such as a puncher.
@Fergy I know we´re in Covid mode, but I´m pretty sure you´ve heard about RBV too. Its a Internet Virus that transfers (in contrast of RNA/DNA) fairytales into innocent minds of boxing fans (like @mark ant ). With threads like this, that conclude absolute silly comparisons, thread starters become in fact COMPLICIOUS! Shaking common sense inside the head of users isn´t as trifle as it looks! Take care. Be responsible for what you post, give This content is protected no chance. Thanks.
It’s actually not even close. Did you actually watch any Ali fights in the second half of his career? Was a punching bag. They even wrote a whole book about it in boxing by the numbers Ali. Maybe you should educate yourself and pick it up
Once again educate yourself. Ali’s defense was horrendous in the second half of his career. He took a lot of abuse. We have the compubox numbers of both men. It’s not even close.
