    Young Griffo vs ???

I read a story a few years back where he turned up for a fight absolutely plastered with John L Sullivan, who sank into a ringside seat and promptly fell into a drunken stupor. Every now and then he'd come to and yell something like 'Throw the left Griffo!'.
Griffo still not in control of all his faculties would somehow grab his opponent over to where John L was and cup his hand to his ear yelling 'What say John? What say?'
Probably not quite as it happened but always gives me a chuckle.

Jack Johnson vs. Sam Langford. Two titans: one of the greatest heavyweight champions of all time with his hands full against one of the best pound-for-pound fighters ever, in one neat package. Come on, Youtube!

My uncle says that the Davis/Tribuani fights were all out brawls; which matched the preferred style of both fighters. Trib was heading towards a shot at the belt until Bummy broken his cheekbone during the second fight. That caused him a nine month layoff.

When we went to see Al back in the day, he was one of those guys that got within inches of you while greeting you. He'd small talk for about 20 seconds and then give ya about a two to three inch jab into the lower rib. He has dropped me and each of my brothers that way at one time or another. It wasn't so great at the time. But now knowing that was involved with one of the most powerful punchers of all time (Bummy), it's neat to have 'sensed' it rather than just seeing film, reading or hearing about it.

Too bad both of their boxing careers were cut short. Both men would have been Champions at some time. They were both good guys as well.

Prime Sullivan...any one of his fights just so he's prime. I would want to see how good/great the first gloved heavyweight champion was.

Johnson dropped Sam and broke his nose I don't think he had much of a job controlling the smaller Langford.Jack had about 28lbs on Sam for that fight.

I'd actually really like to see a copy of Bob Fitzsimmons vs Jim Corbett from 1897...or Bob's second fight with Jeffries in 1902.

Corbett and that big over rated lunk Jeffries 1900 coney island.
Ok Ok so big Jeff has the win on his record, Corbett was the better boxer and no body with an ounce of intelligance would recommend Jeff's boxing style as the route to sucsess, no this fight was a classic and mores the pity they DID have a 25 bout...ah for those of you that dismiss Corbett as being a no power punching relic from the past, just remember how well his reputation as being an all time great is overlooked, but not by Gene Tunney or anyone else with boxing a mind..after all boxing is "the art of self defense".
