1980s/'90s heavyweight Mark Young, fought loads of top names. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
He was cannon fodder When a warm body is needed for a quick W call Mark Young. Dave Jaco Sammy Scaff Lorenzo Boyd There were others I'm forgetting
Took balls for those guys to get in With some of those men though. I mean seriously, how many people want to make a living being a punching bag ? Dave Jaco for example used to take fights with literally just several hours notice. So when people asked him “ what are you doing this weekend “ his likely reply was “ not much, just getting my ass kicked... “
a decent trialhorse/clubfighter sort who was usually outclassed by the top guys but could prove stubborn on occasion. Took some big shots from Foreman before being KO'd and gave Ribalta a decent fight. Wonder how he would have done against guys of a lower level, guys like Sammy Scaff, Jaco, Lorenzo Boyd, Donnie Long, Bigfoot Martin etc
Kind of hearkens back to my thread about favourite journeymen. You have to give these guys a lot of credit.
Since today's top heavyweight fighters themselves are less interesting, the journeymans of this incredibly sorry era are 100000000000× time more Anonymous.
Bless the poor journeyman fighter. Without him, armchair experts would have so much less to look down on.
