I agree. BJS was doing very well and had a real shot at winning (on fair cards at least) until that one hit. It's very possible Canelo would have gone on to win, but at the time of the stoppage, Canelo certainly hadn't broken him down.

Saunders deserves every morsel of mockery thrown at him. That's what you get when you talk all this garbage about gypsy heart and willing to die in the ring.

The injury is irrelevant. He has to own up to his words. In that sense, he 100% quit.

Not really sure there'd be any point in a rematch, with Canelo ruthlessly zeroing in on Saunders' repaired orbital.

    No one's unbeatable.
The argument of being up on the cards before the end of the fight doesn't mean anything.
Canelo hurt him a few times, completely unhurt but behind on points by a round or two, who's in better shape with a third of the fight to go?

This reminds me of when the Mexican translator said to JCC "te rajaste en la esquina". Literally translated it as "you bitched out in the corner". JCC exploded in anger. Hilarious moment. Dumb translator.

BJS’s inactivity finally caught up with him. He didn’t look sharp at all.

If the Dr said, there's a chance that an unfortunately placed punch will kill you by pushing the orbital bone into the brain, it's very different to this is going to hurt a lot but there's no additional risk

We don't know for sure, but I suspect quitting was the right decision. He wasn't likely to come back, especially with loaded cards. Sure he talked a lot of bravado to sell the fight, oh wait , that's never happened before...

Canelo caught BJS with body shots when he was against the ropes.

The issue for BJS was that if he was going to be able sustain a 12 rounds of finessing Canelo and winning rounds. He needed to hold the centre of the ring and not expend energy going backwards and being caught on the ropes.

I don’t think his legs and body were capable of executing the gameplan he needed to win the fight on points.

It is clear though that a supreme elite boxer is the type of fighter to beat Canelo.

That's YOUR scorecard which is not one of the three that count.

I will confess, as a Canelo fan, I find it sad that BJS needed a sweep of the last four rounds and a KD to win in a fight that was so close and back and forth after 8.

The whole thing that makes him special in the modern era is battling back from adverse results, so if he loses let him lose and come back stronger again.

Gotta be able to hurt and slow down Clenelo.

Billy Joe made him miss a bunch and it was making Clenelo gas but without the offense to hurt Clenelo.
