I pray that he hangs the gloves up and gets the mental help he needs to pull through this. He's a broken man now and I don't wish for him to do any harm to himself. He will know himself his heart shattered last night Debbie Harry style.

    Pobrecito,
Hopefully he has learned a valuable lesson from all this.

i know I have had life long lessons reinforced from what I witnessed.

He has probably made more money in his career than most of us will in a lifetime. He can either hang them up and live off the interest, or heal and become a domestic gate keeper.

Pretty classy from Canelo not to trash talk BJS after the fight, the circumstances were perfect for it.

Turns out saunders career is most likely over, it would be to risky to fight with the metal pieces in four different spots.

Yeah it’s tough to come back from a single fracture to the orbital bone, much less a triple fracture. I doubt he fights again.

Brook never came back from his injury and he was younger than Saunders and didn't have as much money in the bank. Tough thing to come back from such a thing where Saunders is right now.

    Quality post.

Yes, you talked more than your share of sh*t prior to the bout, but you have enough common sense/maturity to put things in perspective.

Even fighters we detest are modern day gladiators who risk their health for a chance at something better than their present/former circumstances.

    Cheers.

Didn’t Inoue break his orbital bone against Donaire, or was it a less severe injury?

    That's the thing about Canelo.

Sure, he has the kind of institutional pull that most fighters can scarcely imagine, much less possess, and he was (in my opinion) the beneficiary of some extremely charitable scoring in the first GGG fight, but the kid is a class act.

He rarely demeans an opponent, respects the fight game and its history, and truly lives the life.

Admittedly, some of his fans are first rate tossers, but I personally like the kid.

Any orbital fracture is an extremely serious injury and by all accounts it can be an extremely painful one too. However, this is by far the worst one I've seen and it actually makes me feel queasy thinking about what would've happened had Clenelo landed just one more bomb on the injured area. BJS 2.0's face was caved in and he suffered multiple fractures spread across quite a large area.

Imagine if one of these Clenbuterol bombs from hell landed on the injured area where there was already multiple fractures sustained.

This doctor doesn't even realize the extent of the injury

You're right. It was something like that. And Donaire can bang.

Just goes to show what kind of fighter Inoue is. Want to see him in some big fights. Just a terrific, terrific fighter.

In Saunder's case, it's just a long way back from such an injury when you're in your 30's and coming off your biggest fight and biggest purse but losing your title. Hard to really get up for fighting the second raters for another possible shot at the big time while you don't even know that your eye is going to hold up. And Saunders wasn't the most dedicated to start with, so it's kind of hard to see him wanting that kind of grind at this point.

But that's just a guess from someone waayyyyyyyyyy on the outside, so I could very well be wrong. Just my feeling.
