Anybody remember Gomez - Vitali? Michael would do much better than Juan Anybody remember Byrd - - Vitali? Vitali is not the monster you think he is
Never knocked down, practically never lost a round, Highest KO rate in history, 6'7" and only lost on unfortunate injuries. I am not sure why that is not considered a monster.
Sanders and Peter. Probably. But include Byrd and Lewis as he was winning those fights before injury. On his way to a KO of Lennox.
Tomasz Adamek lasted 10 rounds with Vitali. Adamek started his career at 175. He actually lost to Chad Dawson at 175. Adamek was knocked down and struggled to beat Paul Briggs at 175. At cruiser weight Adamek got a lucky win against light punching Steve Cunnigham. Juan Carlos Gomez a natural cruiser weight was knocked out in 1 round by Yaqui Diaz but Juan manage to go 10 rounds with Vitali. Vaughn Bean was a small heavyweight and he manage to go 11 with Vitali. Chris Byrd turned pro at 169 and he manage to beat Vitali. So Spinks size shouldn't play much of a factor. If Spinks frozed up like he did against Mike Tyson then of course he would lose. If he just fought like he normal fought he would put up a good fight and possibly beat Vitali K.
So because you choose to gain weight it makes you a bigger guy? Spinks weighed 212 against Tyson. Also who cares if Vitali was up on the score card. He still quit and on his official record he lost.
On his way to a KO of Lewis? Both were exhausted as hell and both lost the sting in their punches. Lewis carved a masterpiece. I wish the fight had gone on, so Vitali would have lost his eyesight and gotten battered late
Yes, because when you gain weight it makes you a bigger guy. Holyfield is a great example. Vitali blew his shoulder out from landing so many punches. It is not like he could continue after losing an arm. The fight is officially a win for Byrd. But no one thinks Byrd is the better fighter.
Lennox just got a lucky break. He was sagging away and done. He was just another fighter with no answer to VK just like the scorecards proved. It would have been more glorious for LL to go out on his shield. Instead, Lennox quit boxing before a rematch could happen - despite his promises. An inglorious exit for such a great champion. Vitali was the better man that night, and it would have been better for boxing if the cut did not happen.
