Dude is an ATG, and probably has the best resume of any active fighter today, assuming Pac is at the end.

But he has had, as someone mentioned, elite protection.

He has two losses to GGG, but came away with a W and a D.

Ali got a W over Norton that was undeserved.

SRL got a D in a fight Hearns clearly won.

Floyd got a W over Castillo after losing seven rounds.

The top guys often get these kinds of breaks.

It's always been the nature of the game...in fact it was worse in bygone years.

Tonight's fight was entertaining, and Canelo won it, fair and square. But if he hadn't, he was probably on his way to a W anyway. And that's what riles some fans.

I think the problem with Canelo’s resume is he hasn’t really beaten any ATG’s or A level fighters, even B+ level fighters (clearly) to give perspective on just how good he is.

For the record I thought he beat GGG both times so he has that, which is his strongest claim to ATG status.

Let’s compare that to previous ATGs:

    Pac:
    MAB
    Morales
    JMM
    Cotto
    Bradley
    Hatton

    Floyd:
    Canelo
    Pac
    Castillo
    Corrales
    Judah

    RJJ:
    Hopkins
    Toney

RJJ got similar hate for the longest time for lack of A-level competition.

Canelo has a lot of “decent” guys on his resume:
    Trout
    Lara
    Jacobs
    Saunders
    Smith

but none with the exception of GGG who I would consider B+ - A level. B+ to me btw is someone like Bradley/Hatton/prime Judah, clearly top of their division. B’s are just below like the Trouts, Lara, Danny Garcia etc. And A level+ are HOFers and ATGs.

Someone like Thurman, I’m not sure where to place him. He’s better than B level guys like Porter and Danny but he’s not quite A level, he may be B+.

The ATGs Canelo fought, 1 arguably beat him in Cotto shot as he was, the other whitewashed him despite Canelos size advantage.

For the record Hagler had the same problem when he was going through B-C level guys. It wasn’t until he fought and beat certified ATGs in Hearns and Duran that everyone started to give him his respect.

I give him his due, at least on paper. I still dont quite believe he should only have 1 loss.

As for this fight, its a good win fair and square. What i dont like however was saunders quitting like a girl but that aint canelo's fault

I think he could beat Beterbiev, but Bivol would smash him. Really really bad.

Canelo has my respect. He’s made a case on being not just the best P4P fighter right now but also considered as one of the best Mexican fighters. I’ve come to respect him more and more with each fight he’s in.

Canelo is aging like fine wine. His punch selection, timing, counter punching, pacing and spacing are great to watch.

And he's only 30 years young. He could easily have a throwback looking record of 70-80 wins on his ledger when it's all said and done.

Hes an amazing boxer no doubt but he always has everything stacked in his favor, got caught doing clenbuterol and got a timely 6 month ban just as he had a knee surgery which took around 6 months to recover from. In eyes of most he lost twice to Golovkin and to Lara and possibly Jacobs. It's hard to appreciate or love someone who has this many question marks around his career.

I'm just saying, if Shawn Porter was marketable he would be undefeated with some unbelievable wins on his record. Would you then call Shawn Porter incredible and make him undisputed P4P number 1? If Canelo wasn't marketable he would have 6 defeats on his record. It seems people place everything in how 3 random individuals scored a fight.

I like Canelo's style, he has some of the best defense I've seen and certainly the best head movement I've seen in a long time, has great timing and combinations but it's just incredibly hard to support or like someone who has so many asterisks around his career.

Those who love boxing genuinely appreciate the greatness on display. Unfortunately there are many jealous despicable haters out there even including some on this forum. If you cannot appreciate Canelo’s talent you don’t understand boxing. The same people hate Floyd Mayweather and Andre Ward.

He may never surpass Chavez as the greatest Mexican fighter of all time but you know what it does not matter. Ali’s greatness did not diminish Ray Leonard’s or Hearns as theirs does not diminish Floyd’s. All exceptional fighters.

You serious? Gvozdyk, Ward, Beterviev, Prime G, Martinez, Pavlik, Bivol destroy him. I'm not even sure he can even convincingly beat Caleb Plant.

From your comments it’s seems being thick applies to you. Saunders was losing by 6 rounds to 2 after the 8th round. It’s not me just thinking so, 2 of the official judges had it that way as well.

It’s not corruption. Maybe what you need to focus on his excellent ring presence or what we call ring generalship which makes his work pleasing to judges.

Accurate except for the claims about corruption which don’t exist. Winning close fights does not mean corruption and let’s not forget even in the Floyd Mayweather while 1 inept incompetent judge made it a draw the other 2 gave it wide in Floyd’s favour.

He fought Lil G twice I thought he won both. After the draw 1st fight he fought him in the 2nd fight and did it Mexican style as requested by Lil G. The fights were close but he clearly won them more so the 2nd one.
