I rewatch Jones vs Griffin somewhat recently, and I remember thinking that Jones was closer to the mid-level of guys like Johnson, Qawi and Conn than guys like Foster, Moore, Spinks and Charles. He isn't a bad pick for the fifth spot, although I'm questioning my placement, but saying no-one beats him between 160 and 175? Not a ****ing chance.
Cry me a river kid I have shared the ring with men who have forgot more about boxing then you will ever learn the Jap kicked Jofre's ass coming up in weight against a big bantam Jofre knows it and would not mind if you did either I have sparred men who you guys idolize I know boxing
That's nice, now **** off. You've shared a ring with these people. In sparring. You've been slapped around and used as an expendable ***** by these people. You're not special. You mean nothing to them, and it's not like you learn boxing history via ****ing osmosis. I can guarantee you I know more about boxing history than Larry Holmes does. And that's even if it's true, you're probably an alt of War or something. You're exposing your poor knowledge of the lower weights. Harada moved up to bantamweight because he was 19 when he won the flyweight title. They're the same ****ing size and Harada was a bantam well before he actually fought Jofre. Furthermore, if you're sticking to this narrative that Harada thrashed Jofre and they weren't competitive, then you'll fit right in with the rest of the condescending ******s this place specializes in.
I never said no one would beat him. I said no one is having an "easy" night at equal weights against a prime Roy. JJW lost like 14x, several by brutal KO so that's a strange comparison. Can't see a prime Roy looking that bad if he maintained that level of skill and athleticism.
Heavy 1) FOTC Frazier 2) 60s Ali 3) Louis 4) Holmes 5) Liston 6) Foreman 7) Tyson 8) 1992 Bowe 9) Marciano 10) Holyfield
Wow, you really got me thinking. I don't think Iron Mike, Lewis, or Marciano would make it past Foreman. I hate adding Holy to that list, but he had some extremely shaky moments against past 40-George. I hate to admit this, but if Bowe beat him handily in that first fight, Foreman probably would have wrecked him. It's so hard to say that about a fighter you love so much. But George was just too overwhelming, even for peak Holy imo. He hit harder than Bowe, and was a better finisher than Bowe. Once Holy gets caught...it's over.
Agreed on all counts except it being over "once Holy gets caught" I think he survives a multitude of scary moments before succumbing.
I SO want to believe that. It's just that George was such a ferocious finisher. What I REALLY want to believe is Holy would suck it up, keep using his darting style to chip away at the Foreman stone until George was battered and stopped in the later rounds. I mean I REALLY want to believe that. But Holy was SUCH a warrior and just loved to mix it up with guys way stronger than him. He starts engaging prime Foreman...check out Bowe's uppercut in the 10th rd of the first fight. Now, imagine that was FOREMAN. Like I said, Swag, this really hurts for me to say. Holy is such a hero of mine...George too, just in a different way. Foreman's uppercut was a ruining monstrosity from Hellsville.
