He got badly injured. His career has been a bit stagnant the last 4 years, he got his big mega fight, made big money. Sensible move to retire, I would have thought.
I disagree, I hope this gives him added fuel to come back stronger and be more active like he should always have been. Plenty of big fights and paydays left for him. I think it'd be a shame for someone of his ability to retire this early.
Not necessarily, it's actually a simple medical procedure to repair with a plate and screws, the fact they're operating so quickly is actually a positive sign rather than a negative one. If he has to retire it will be a personal choice or that there is further underlying nerve or eye damage beyond any structural bone damage.
He should retire. No where for him to go, hes nearly 32 years old. Surely by the time hes fully healed and got back in the ring he will be 33. HIs style isnt going to age well, its not like hes a big puncher hes a mover and age will slow him down. Thats of course if he can box again, which i doubt looking how bad the injury was. Unfortuanately for billy hes wasted his prime by not taking it serious enough and having too many lay offs in his career. I think hes an exceptional talent, but unfortunatley talent only gets you so far. I would say hes more naturally gifted than canelo but canelo has shown that hard work outdoes skill when skill doesnt work hard enough..... look how good he was against canelo whilst having been so inactive, i have to think how much better he would have been a few years ago fully dedicated at 160. Brilliant boxer, but wast of talent and ultimately this is the end, or maybe he comes back like brook and gets humiliated for a pay check.
Not hating at all mate saying he should retire. Its more out of concern for him as a fighter, he wont be the same after that injury, both physically and mentally. Dont like to see fighters go on to long and become damaged
I'm quite surprised he's said that so soon, that he'll be back, considering the extent of the injury and how deflated he must be feeling. Fair play if he actually does. There's always a decent payday of a rematch with CEJ .
Dreadful injury, no unbeaten record, no Title, notional or otherwise. Add to this a style that's harder to sell than last week's milk and a personality that can be smelled miles away. I doubt promoters or broadcasters will be ringing his phone off the hook.
This is why I went a little bit errr crazy when people were saying "he quit, he hasn't no heart" straight after the fight. Obviously I didn't know the full extent of the injury, but it was clear his face was caved in, he had no cheek bone, it was clear to me he had a serious injury. There is a "quit" and then is you just can't go on, if you know what I mean, and with that injury BJS just couldn't go on, that's nothing to do with heart or courage. Yeah that injury is horrific, I agree with you I think that's it now, done, that injury looks and sounds so bad and so dangerous that I think it might be a case where Drs tell him he can't box any longer.
Yeah I am in no position to call SANDERS a quitter. If I have done at any point, I hereby REDACT. If that punch had knocked him out cold, he’d be getting loads of credit for “winning the fight until he got put to sleep” as it is, a broken face is deadly serious, doesn’t take a MEDICAL expert to say that with authority. I watched the highlights last night and Canelo clearly didn’t target the cheekbone once he’d broken it, he knew it was completely caved in and the game was up.
