When your face is literally caved in grotesquely proving you're a big tough macho man and not a quitter isn't really an option. It's not a swollen or closed eye. It's not a bit ugly haematoma. And it's not a very minor fracture to the orbital socket that will get progressively worse when the injured area suffers repeated trauma. You can still continue to fight for a while after suffering these type of injuries albeit I'm not downplaying the severity of some of them. However, you cannot fight on if your face is freaking caved in, especially when it's the bones surrounding your eyes and you're facing a very hard puncher who caused that damage with a single shot. That's a horrific injury and one more bomb on that injured area would've been absolutely devastating.

Whatever happened in the past when you see the speed and viciousness of Canelo's power punches with his thick bull neck and full weight behind them it's no surprise he did serious damage.

That's a bit rich coming from the guy who has a serious disconnect from reality when it comes to what a landed punch is

As to eye socket fractures It must be said Tyson has provoked much more eye socket fractures to his opponents (and ribs fractures too) than newspapers have reported in those years. Many fighters hide the damages suffered during a fight.

That's true, it was so good of Canelo to hold back towards the end of the 8th round. He could have really loaded up if he wanted to, but he didn't, what a good sportsman, to sense that Billy's face was in tatters, to decide not to turn Billy into complete China, he said he felt his cheek break when he landed it, he must of took Pity on Billy and let him go back to his corner. What a nice guy Canelo was, he saved Billy's face from completely shattering.

I have to say I do find it a bit odd Canelo's punching power seems to have taken such a radical upswing. Not only did he just cave in Saunder's face out of the blue, but he KO'd Kovalev completely out of the blue too. So his KO power is greater than ever as he faces fighters in much higher weight classes. I guess Kovalev never had an iron chin, but 175 lb is a pretty large jump in divisions.

    I don't know. It's weird.

All of us know that boxing is a dangerous sport. So, be prepared whatever happens in the ring. Dead, injuries, and cripple.

Didn't think of this did you smart guy.

Consider clock arithmetic but with 12 O'clock replaced by the number 1. So the fractions between 0 and 1 represent the hours. So in this circular algebraic system 1 o'clock = 0 o'clock. Therefore 1+1= 0= 1+1+1= 3.

Canelos criminal cheating. He has cost a fellow fighter an eye now. He betrayed Oscar after Oscar did so much for him. Horrible person.

    Combination of factors:

State of the art training methods, state of the art nutrition, state of the art PEDs

Canelo is aware he only has to do the minimum to win rounds. So this affords him the luxury to load up on his shots and carry his power into the later rounds.

His opponents have to work far far harder to win each round. So they are going to tire themselves. Muscles tire, guards drop, fighters slow down, real damage is done.

It's fair to say, sport is both mental and physical. How would your mentality be affected going into a fight you are being paid to participate in for the purpose of a belt transfer or being a name on a resume?

Having said that, Canelo does have a very good chin and head movement, so even if a KO is your only route to victory. He isn't going to make it easy for you. He is actually a great fighter, just one whose career is mired by blatant corruption.

And even then it's been strange how fighters like Kovalev and Smith who would have a chance for KO seemed more interested in taking turns playing tag with Canelo. (Then again, given the level of corruption that blatantly surrounds Canelo...it's not so surprising)

So in conclusion, you have an elite athlete, on all the best sauce and training methods, who knows he can load up on every shot looking for the knock out safe in the knowledge that he will get a round for one or two clean heavier shots, fighting opponents placed under far more mental and physical pressure in the ring.

To quote Deontay Wilder - another heavy hitter with the judges in his pocket, "They have to be perfect, I only need 2 seconds..."

I should probably duck for cover now.

I'm not a huge Canelo fan but Canelo always has had power. That's nothing new. He has gotten even better with time though. That's not unexpected either. He's in his peak years now. And the man is disciplined and by all accounts is all business in the gym. Hes may very well be at his peak right now. But it will be over like that for him.

Unless you're Foreman or the alien, boxers dont typically enjoy longevity. Canelo might have 3 years or so of domination and then age will catch up with him. Look what happened with GGG. Was extraordinary in my eyes, but now capable of losing to many of the decent boxers in his weight class now.

Not a huge fan of Canelo, but Canelo getting better with time is inevitable with that type of work ethic.
