I mean, it's really down to the fighter and their corner about what they can continue with and how severe and injury is isn't it? Some fighters would have carried on with BJS injury. Consistency is something needed in these cases and honestly I'm fine with fighters who risk their lives in the ring pulling out if they feel they cannot effectively protect and defend themselves.

No he made a mistake and Canelo picked up on it, plus the body shots he landed earlier made Saunders gas.

I vehemently defended both Brook and Dubois for ''quitting'' but I've never seen an orbital fracture as bad as this before and the notion of him going back out for the next round or his corner even contemplating allowing him to do so makes me feel queasy. In addition to his cheekbone having caved in his eye was swollen shut and he obviously wouldn't have been able to see out of it and the punches coming from that side. One more heavy shot to that injured area would've been devastating, let alone lots more.

    I agree.
I think Canelo actually felt Saunders' face break when he connected.

Body language tells you everything. Billy hoe saunders made zero effort to get up, did not protest the stoppage, nothing. Literally hung his head in shame with the towel over his head. Looked like he was about to cry and wanted to disappear. He did not want to continue.

Shouldn't have talked so much trash and embarrassed himself.

I'm fine with people being consistent. Some people are willing to rip into the efforts of a B-Fighter who goes in on short notice who gets injured, or someone who showed real courage and Grit like Callum Smith who took his opportunity to dare to be great with both hands at short notice. That being said some fighters would have carried on through it which is the truth. We need consistency through and you can't just pick and choose when you think is fine for a fighter to quit or not to quit, they are modern day gladiators in there and every time they step through the ropes they risk their lives. In short, based on what you have said you clearly are able to defend BJS as it's not like you have criticised another fighter in the past for pulling out due to feeling they can't reasonably defend themselves due to injury so good stuff.

He did quit, same as Dubois did after talking trash about Joe Joyce's blind Mother. That being said if you are supportive of fighters and don't criticise any of them for quitting previously it's fine to give BJS a pass, if you did then you are right to give him scorn. It's really down to each individuals opinion which is fine if they are consistent I think.

    Spot On Mr S.

It's such a bad injury I personally think this is career ending.

    Thanks

Yeah I think so too. I wonder if they called a ringside physician to inspect the injury during the interval? If not, why not? And if they did were they actually going to allow him to go back out with an injury that bad?

If someone "quits" with a caved in skull, did they really "quit"? Canelo felt Billy's face give way, 100%.

This could go down as one of the most brutal punches in the history of boxing . Not only did Canelo feel the bone breaking through his gloves and wrapping but the whole eye socket literally caved in. As others have said this could be career ending.

No, Canelo was trying to land that punch the whole fight.... Not really a lucky punch.. I had BJS up on my card, but Canelo kicked into a higher gear in the 8th... I think Canelo probably would have stopped him after 10.

Yep.... there's only one type of rotator cuff injury....one type of broken orbital bone injury...ALL injured occur the same way and same degree
