True, but to be fair, having one or 2 extra top names on his resume would close any debate. Still, for me he is an ATG MW. This division has had many excellent fighters with better resumes. However, not many were as avoided as GGG. And again, I think it wouldn't be up to debate if he had been granted the fair results against Canelo. Add to that his excellent chin, will & boxing skills, and I can see enough reasons for saying he is an ATG MW

You have to realize with fans like Shadow...they change their tune constantly on what happened depending on who they are posting with.

First it was: "It was a close fight!"
Then it became: "Canelo WHooped his butt!!" Thes guys don't even believe that....they say it to get a rise outta posters.
Hell, Shadow even says Canelo was the on teaching Floyd lessons when they fought.

Canelo "I learned a lot from the Floyd fight"
Shadow "Nuh uh no you didn't!"

    To be fair

Floyd: ''Clenelo learned a lot from me''

Floyd fans: ''Clenelo learned a lot from Floyd''

    Floyd fans: ''Clenelo hasn't improved''

Personally, I think he is much like Calzaghe - 100% HOF, and SHOULD be ATG, but the resume (regardless of who's fault it is) falls a fair bit short.

One of the best jabs, fantastic ring cutting ability, granite chin, and great stamina, GGG in his prime was a handful for anyone @160.

But whether due to other boxers avoiding him (high risk / low reward), and not being US-centric early enough in his career, his resume is just a bit thin for ATG status IMO.

It would only have 2/3 names on it IMO to push him to ATG but they just not there.

Maybe if he got Martinez, Canelo after he beat Cotto then vacated in 2015, rather than in 2 years later in 2017 when the fight actually happened. But again a bit like Cazlaghe the names to propel him to ATG (at least at 160) simply didn't exist, and he should have looked at 168 IMO. Ward, Froch, Groves, Degale, Badou Jack - these would have all been MUCH better scalps to have, and even if he had lost (let's say to Ward in a close decision) it would have elevated him and shown that desire to push himself further.

But on the other hand, Hagler is universally regarded as an ATG and didn't move up, and most up his defining fights are actually against fighters moving up in weight - arguably GGG vs Canelo bears some similarities to Leonard vs Hagler. But there were multiples of those and those were all ATG, and more importantly some of the best fights in history.

One thing is for sure IMO, both Canelo and GGG needed those 2 fights on their resume to even be considering greatness, take them away, and both of them are hugely diminished.

This is border line free association writing and I love it.

I am saving it (and others you’ve done) and going to have my secretary place them in a coffee table style book.

I'm a big fan - he deserves a hall of fame nod, but his list of top-tier wins is too thin for all-time great status. Tons of wins against borderline and lower-end top 10 guys with a short-list of top 5 guys and an arguable win or two over Canelo depending on your cards? I suppose if you value longevity, title belts, and title defenses more highly than elite wins, you could make an argument, but it's not an argument I would agree with. Not necessarilty an indictment of him, but boxing has such a rich history and endless array of greats such that all-time great status becomes a truly high bar.

There's nobody like me Lance. And I'm Super Consistent.

Canelo taught Floyd how to do feints. Floyd never knew what those were before he fought Canelo. It took Floyd about 3 rounds to not flinch up and down every 5 seconds. By rounds 4 and 5, Floyd learned how to only flinch about 2 or 3 times a round instead of 7-8 times a round lol.

And didn't you see when Canelo taught Floyd how to fight off the ropes in Round 10? Floyd got an education there, he learned a lot from Canelo. Floyd should be very thankful to Canelo to have such a great teacher to show him such how to use such advanced boxing skills.

GGG did what he did at 160, but it wasn't very ATG like. He had a draw and lost to a smaller fighter in Canelo, AND never stepped up to the plate against Andre Ward in HIS PRIME. Too big for 154 but too small for 168? Riiiiight. I respect GGG and always tuned in to see his fights even before he was a house hold name in the mainstream media.. but truth be told, he never dared to be great. So what exactly makes him great?

 cute that you believe this.... So canelo taught Floyd how to do something Floyd had never ever done before...and he taught him in just one instance in their fight.. Okey dokey...
