Morrell fights like a watered down David Benavidez with some pointless flash showboating thrown in. He looks physically strong against weak opponents. I think Ryder can rough him up and make it harder for him.
It´s not even about that. It´s the fact that Hearn isn´t pushing him at all. Ryder had a stellar 2019 and Hearn has completely disregarded him. Ryder has had one fight since and now he is fighting on someones else's show against a hot prospect. It´s similar to how PBC had no problem giving John Molina to Crawford as they had nothing better to do with him(a win, win for the promoter due to the money involved).
What? You are again missing my point here. I am saying that Hearn has completely ignored Ryder since 2019. He upset Akkawy and then nearly derailed Smith´s career. Those two were Hearn´s darlings. And the Smith fight happened because the WBA mandated it. Since then, Hearn has gotten Ryder a single fight until now. When was the last time you even heard Hearn prop up Ryder? Any sane promoter would be blabbering about him. The only reason this is happening is because Morrell wants it. They are setting this all up, not Hearn. Hearn is happy to give him away. I don´t know what is going on behind the scenes, but Hearns has pushed Ted Cheeseman harder than John Ryder.
Go and look who akkawy is Promoted by then go and look up Hearns relationship with Tony sims. you will then understand you are miles off
So a 20-0, 26-3 and 15-6 in 4 fights is weak opposition. In your opinion. Let me tell you something about weak opposition. Benavidez, and I think he is best at 168lbs right now. The first 4 fighters he faced were a combined 1-5. Three of them were debutants. So what do you think about that opposition?
there a few Cubans that with a proper promotion would make some noise. Yoelvis Gomez, Ariel Perez, Bruzon, William Scull, Robeisy Ramirez, Frank Sanchez and a few others that are escaping my memory. Matellon is not a young prospect but he is a world champ.
Records don't mean anything when the opponents he's faced have just beaten bums themselves to stack up a padded record. The records of the opponents aren't really remarkable when you dig in deep and see who they've fought. Shot fighters, poor journeymen and part time boxers to build undefeated records. I don't even rate Benavidez as highly as some. He's been knocked down and hurt a few times in fights.
