Joshua Clottey is closer in size to Deontay Wilder, than Wilder was to Dustin Nichols.

I wonder if the fanboys even realize this

    Clottey via brutal KO

Just an observation. Not sure if this has been mentioned before. But if Rocky Marciano were a black, hispanic or asian fighter would he be looked at in the same way? I’m just making an observation. I’m not turning this into a race thing but please any honest feelings.

Racial categories don't really make sense. How is Marciano any more white than many hispanic fighters?

How is Canelo Alvarez less caucasian than Marciano?

Ok what if he weren’t an American fighter?

A big man is always going to be at a disadvantage against a small man on the inside, however good an infighter he is.

Wlad used his left hook at mid range, he was never really fought in the pocket. Lewis showed decent infighting against via short uppercuts and hooks against Mercer and often used short uppercuts on the inside during his fights like against Akinwande and Vitali. Lewis was more versatile and a better dogfighter. Wlad was better at long range and hit harder though

What baffles me is how Marciano is somehow tied so strongly to racial agendas.
It clearly influences opinions on him as a fighter.

Disadvantage doesn't mean he's going to loose though. Thats why Bowe beat Holyfield, simply because he was the better infighter. Holyfield could throw shorter hooks and combos but he still didn't win

This might be sacrilege to say, but I actually like Bowe in this matchup. Riddick did very well with shorter smaller guys, who did not give him any footwork or angles. Rocky would stand right there with him and trade, and the huge Bowe, who actually liked to fight on the inside, would have serious physical advantages. Sure it is possible that Rocky belts him out too, because this is a great style matchup for Rocky as well. But Bowe was so darn big and strong, so much taller and longer, and when in shape he kept a really good pace too. He had a pretty darn good chin also. So two guys who like to belt it out, but one is 5'10" 190 and the other is 6'5" 235. It would be really entertaining for as long as it lasted.

    This is not midrange.

I have no further interest in derailing this thread by arguing which jab and grabber was more sporadic in their infighting.....Pepsi vs Coke.

I paid two fighters a compliment by calling them defensive masters..... Both Wlad and Lewis were masters of neutralizing smaller men. Deal with it.

He knocked him out with a left hook at mid range and finished with more inside left hooks because Ray Austin was literally looking down because he was stunned. But if you want to say thats an inside left hook sure, but he still didn't infight. Klitschko didn't get into a dog fight with fighters nor did he continously swap hands with fighters in the pocket like Lewis did. Klitschko avoided exchanging with fighters. Lewis had jabbing and grabbing in his arsenal but he was FAR more versatile

    Whatever helps you sleep better.

I was only complimenting both men for their ability to neutralize smaller fighters.

The fact you can't call a left hook thrown with his chest against the man a short punch ....that says everything. Yes ..I want to call it short because IT IS short.

For whatever reason putting these two men in the same post in a positive context can be triggering for some...should we compare their sexual conquests next?

Though I pray like hell he doesn't mean anything disparaging or moronically racist, he might have meant what he wrote in the sense that the Mexican ethnicity isn't necessarily European, as the Europeans married into the Maya tribes that originally inhabited the area centuries ago. The Mayans were Native Americans (which ethnologically means of ancient Asian descent).

Italians are "purely" Europeans, which in modern parlance means they are considered (along with the majority of other Europeans) Caucasian.

That most certainly does NOT mean any of these folks are any "better" or "worse" than anybody else, absolutely not! We're all people, regardless of stripe, belief system, etc. There's a big difference between ethnology and stupidity.

I'm hoping we all already know that :)

Not when the big man has the option to impose his size and strength and wear down the little fella... especially a lil' fella with a ganky back.

Let's be real for a second, Bowe is better in so many (if not all) facets of the game that it is an early and overwhelming win for him. Rocky just has nowhere to hide all his deficiencies.
