I've just seen the list of people who voted for Canelo. Seamus voted 6 times for a Canelo win by decision, and Billy Joe Saunders voted 7 times for a Canelo win via KO.
When he said better athlete, he probably meant that he has better speed and reflexes. I'm assuming you are referring mostly to stamina and conditioning, right ?!
As the poster Pat M mentioned, if Canelo doesn't have to cut down to 175, the weight gap is not that big anymore. Marciano has great stamina, can take a lot of punishment and hits very hard for his size. But that won't mean anything if he won't be able to land. Canelo is more than capable of hitting him while avoiding getting hit back. Canelo has a decent chance of winning on points.
Cause Canelo is young, while Moore was almost 40 when he fought Marciano. Bare in mind back then they didn't have the juices they have now .
Stamina conditioning strength. Would def give the reflexes and speed edge to Canelo. But one would expect most lighter weight fighters to be.
Balanc, mobility, footwork, punch selection, accuracy... the list of Canelo's advantages is almost mind numbing.
Canelo is definitely the superior athlete of the two. Rocky may have more stamina but Nelo has those fast-twitch muscle fibers and explosive athleticism.
Would it be competitive, sure .. the size is there and styles here make the match up interesting .. Rocky stronger, the harder puncher with both hands and the edge on stamina .. Canelo much faster but not a boxer .. I do feel that Rocky wears him down and stops him later in a 15 round fight ..
Mobility? Lol no. Punch selection? Nah. Don’t get carried away. You’d think glass Joe has a lot of advantages too.
Marciano superior conditioning and stamina and non stop punching will be the game changer. Canelo slows down and needs to take rounds off in the middle and Marciano will make him pay
