more than a bit of Canelo fanboy fantasy with talk of a man that walked through Jones jr. bombs being hurt by Canelo.
It seems that the majority of replies here use the old Hopkins in the equation, not the prime one. That always happens in Hopkins threads for some reason. People talk about the 40-year old that lost to Taylor, not the younger and busier that stopped Johnson. Watch 90's Hopkins. He's a different animal to what he was in his 40's.
Bullcrap Smith was another weak champion. Saunder is a natural Middleweight not a 168. Tell ginger to get in there with Betterbiev in a 100 % on the level fight & legitimately beat him, then youd be worth talking to
Yeah really good points. Hopkins subtle steps and movement at range made a lot of guys hesitate. Really beautiful footwork and positioning. I love the way Canelo exploded forward with double jabs to set up the right hand driving BJS to the ropes on the weekend but I think B-Hop might be able to counter that as the rounds go by.
Lmao first Canelo was going to duck Smith, Canelo beats Smith and he's a "weak " opponent lol, Beterbiev? For what?? For people like you make all sort of excuses and not give Canelo credit?? Nahh tell Betervi to grow a pair and move up to HW.
Agree, very crafty and also at middleweight he didn't mind playing the aggressor either. I think he would get a clear but close decision. You don't know what effect a prime Hopkins would have had on Canelo post fight. The guy was great and breaking fighters mentally.
I agree that Ward is the worst match up for Canelo but I make it due to his size and physicality. Ward was beaten to the punch by Kov all night long in their first fight and Kov is slower and more orthodox than Canelo and he tends to head hunt. I see Canelo working Ward quite hard but I don't think he can hurt him and ends up gassing and getting dominated in the later rounds.
Very hard to compare Kova to Canelo. He kept Ward on the end of perfectly measured straight punches. Canelo with his much shorter reach wouldn't be able to do that. He'd have to try and time Ward with counters.
Jones didn't land his best on Hopkins and he said he carried an injury in his right into the fight. Whether that's true or not he fought another kind of fight than Canelo would - he popped and moved. Canelo would set himself and try and get as much leverage as possible into every punch, since he couldn't really box Hopkins. I don't think he'd stop or KO Hopkins or anything such, but he has the power to get Hopkins's respect certainly.
