Canelo was already struggling to make 154lbs before the Mayweather fight (which he was weight-drained for). Let's say after the Trout fight, he moves up to 160lbs (no catch-weight fights). Who do you think he would have fought for the next 6 years? (Canelo's last fight at 160 was in 2019), would he suffer a loss & who to? (remember he's undefeated here as he didnt fight Floyd), & most importantly would he be the household name & attraction he is today?

    Yes,
However it would have taken a bit longer.
    Plus he would still have
    the precious “0” intact.

Yes. Oscar was grooming him (along with sensual ball massages).

If Floyd was unwilling to fight I think it's possible a super shot ODLH would have felt the need to make an appearance.

Regardless without the Floyd fight I think you cut his audience substantially. I don't think he packs Cowboy stadium to fight a British guy at a time when international travel is difficult.

It's a lesson to everyone else, once you get a belt go fight the best. If you make a half-respectable showing you can grow from it.

Are we saying that his entire career would have been different had he not faced, and lost, to Mayweather?

The fight did give him some media and attention just like the Oscar fight did for PBF. With that said he still would have gotten to that point anyway it just would have taken a little longer.

Canelo is a talented guy with a huge natural and passionate fan base.

He would have got there eventually anyway but the exposure he got leading up to the Mayweather fight excellerated things.

I think so without a doubt.
He is a talented fighter fighting known names and getting good results. Also he is fighting regularly and collecting titles

No. What I'm saying is that in your opinion do you think he still would be a household name without that fight?

Unquestionably, yes, he'd still have ended up a household name.

I don't see his career going any different, save the obvious - i.e he would have one less fight/one different fight on his record.

If he would have beat Mayweather or never fought him, he never would have went back to the drawing board like he did and dedicate himself like he has to reach these kind of heights.

We can only speculate what would've happened had that fight never happened, but the notoriety of going 12 rounds with Floyd made Canelo a household name. And the fact that it was such a controversial decision with people thinking it was a Floyd domination but the judges had it so close made him much more popular because of how often people go back and talk about that fight and how he was schooled supposedly, it creates a legendary storyline that defies belief of how someone could have lost so soundly 8 years ago and then went on to be the P4P #1 King of Boxing. All this has served to motivate Canelo to be the best he can be and all this talk of him and Mayweather has catapulted Canelo to super stardom.
