I was still in a nappy when I sparred Leonard, he was slippery but I got to him In the end with my patented left hook ( just trust me it's massive and lethal) I was in my 50s and past prime when I sparred with a young Duran, I was surprised at how easy it was to handle him. He was wild at that point In his career that's why I was able to beat him to the punch. He was embarrassed and walked out of the gym with his tin of paint in hand, he was upset and seriously considering going back to menial labour by the time I'd finished with him. During the twilight of Duran career in the mid 1990's he personally witnessed me KO a hippopotamus. The animal in question had been brought over the Panamanian border by one of Pablo Escobar's closest confidantes, to settle whether Duran or myself had the greater KO power. I would have killed the horse which Duran had took out in 1970. I witnessed this event as It was right before we sparred and I was dating Duran's sister at the time.
In every gym theirs that "one"- the one who beats everyone up in sparring looks like a million dollars and then for some reason chokes when it matters most. Did you see any fighters who you thought could have been so much more then they were only not able to make that hurdle? And did you spar with any name boxers you thought were overrated?
