Phenomenal battle. I chose Fenech without seeing the poll votes. Jeff is one of those fighters I wish had more SuperFights under his belt.
I'm going to be a contrarian here and say this is a good matchup for Hamed, who had more speed and power than almost any featherweight ever. He had freakish speed, power, reflexes, a very awkward style, righty, southpaw, could attack, or box and move. Fenech's forte was coming forward throwing a lot of punches. He was not a big puncher, but more of a volume guy, and he was not a mover or timing/elusive guy. I actually think that falls right into Hamed's hands, because Naseem either is going to catch him moving right into a big one to stop him, or just time him with a massive blow between his flurry of punches, or Naseem had enough speed, power, and timing to catch him and then move around and win a decision. You never know for certain until they fight, but my guess is if the match could be made, the oddsmakers would have Hamed the favorite.
Hamed by brutal KO after catching the hands for at least 6 rounds. He'd be down on points but I don't see how a true swarmer like Fenech keeps walking through him for 12 straight rounds.
Hamed lost one fight in his career and he lost that fight more because of how arrogant Naseem was. He didn't take Barrera seriously and lost 1 fight. The Prince at his peak would destroy Jeff
Hamed at his best before his brother took over and he got all alla akbar had enough power and speed to KO Jeff. Interesting night
Hamed had a lot of moxy for a guy his size. But Fenech was too good he would not outhustle but outbox the Yorkshire man
Azumah Nelson was better than Naz and proved himself v Salvador Sanchez, Naz was never in at that level, nearet he got was MAB and he got out-classed, he was a talented mess trained by chimps who didn`t listen to Steward when he trained him.
He does have a lot of advantages, no doubt about it. I can't decide if it's enough to offset Fenech's otherworldly conditioning and relentless pressure.
In fairness, you make a good point about him not listening to Steward. Manny may have just been the spit bucket carrier that night, for all the difference it made.
