Tyson Fury signed up to the rematch so Wilder is merely exercising his legal right, backed up further by judges ruling. I don't like it, but what would you do if you were Wilder with opportunity to make many many millions by either fighting Fury or being given it as step aside money. The millions needed as step aside money (if Wilder willing to take that option), is a pittance compared to the revenue that a a Fury vs AJ bout will generate, so will be found and paid without any issue
Wilder gonna be asking for $45mil...they should never have told everyone what the site fee was, stupid ****s!
Bummer. Everybody prefers Joshua vs. Fury. It always seemed that the rematch clause was ironclad. Wilders team insisted they wanted it and it would happen while Furys team said they didn't think the contract would hold up in court. Kinda easy to see who to blame for wasting so much time and getting our hopes up. Not saying Wilder didn't drag his feet but if you followed all the comments by all parties it isn't surprising (aside from the Joshua fight being "agreed to" just the week before). Fury wants to be a part time fighter from all actions he's taken. He didnt want the third fight and not sure why; he's so confident and the last result would seem to reaffirm that.
I love boxing, especially the Heavyweights. er...correction: Dreadnought Weights? Super Heavyweights? Ultra Heavyweights? Mountain Weights?
Correct me if i'm wrong, but can't Fury just relinquish the belt that he won against bronze bambi and fight Joshua?
Pretty sure it's a contractual rematch, as opposed to anything the WBC are responsible for. If it was as easy as the WBC stepping in they'd just franchise him, and order Wilder vs Whyte for the WBC world title
This is entirely the fault of Fury and Hearn. Fury for being a jackass and not understanding that the 3rd fight couldn't be made quickly due to the pandemic. His own promoter told him this. Then he got impatient and tried to sneak his way into the fight with AJ. Hearn constantly got the fans hopes up for literally a year hyping up undisputed yet failed to deliver over and over. The fact that they wouldn't wait for the court case to be settled makes this one of the biggest promoting blunders in boxing history. Yet somehow this is Wilder's fault and nobody will blame Fury or Hearn.
I actually think Wilder-Fury 3 could be quite competitive, but I still had my heart set on AJ-Fury. I hope something can be worked out so AJ-Fury can proceed.
Nope, it's about the rematch clause. Fury next fight is against Wilder or he retires. If he fights anyone else in boxing, he and anyone associated with the bout (i.e promoters, networks, site locations) will be sued like crazy. No one wants to be sued so the ball is in Fury court. Dropping the belt won't get him out of this.
Sounds like we are all just going to have to stomach it. Hope it doesn't end up killing off the AG Fury fight in the future these thing's take so long to get sorted who knows. Definitely wouldn't pay for the trilogy no chance
They've could have had this rematch last month and the winner vs AJ as expected in August but Fury and Arum/Warren are jackasses. Can't weasel out of a rematch clause they created. What's going to happen is either Wilder Fury 3 will happen (and Wilder capable of winning back the title) or Wilder will be given an obscene amount of step aside money. Obscene is that it will need to cover Fury and AJ's own rematches as well. Good thing Hearn got that Saudi money lmao.
Yeah, it's definitely a massive screw up and it's pretty hard to not put all the blame on Furys team and management. They tried to get out of a rematch clause they had agreed to. Crappy that most legal disputes in boxing take a good year+, bogs everything down. Everybody loses... Fury loses big time with not getting what he wants. Wilder loses from having not been given what he was owed. Joshua loses a big payday and keeps waiting. The fans lose out on a year and a half of two top HW careers. It's like a team sport player holding out for a new contract... except the old contract still exists.
