I've had my eyes focused on him for the past few months, he seems excellent but eye tests can be deceiving. What noteworthy feat has he done at 147 ?
How good is anyone at 147 nowadays? Everyone is full of themselves besides Shawn Porter. He is the ONLY throwback in the division and Al Haymon is holding him from fighting Crawford.
Simply put. There is no way to know at this point. Jeff Lacy looked like a monster at 168 until his competition level went up. There is no way to legitimately rate Crawford when his resume is Horn, Benavidez, Khan, Brook and Mean Machine.
Unified 140 lb division and beat everyone who has stepped in the ring with him. I would call THAT "noteworthy."
he won't even fight porter because he knows he will look bad/average against him. Porter was dogging spence for 75% of their fight.
The WBO rankings have Ortiz, Porter, then about 10 of the remaing 13 have BCE (Big Crawford-opponent Energy). I suspect we'll see him confront true bogeyman David Avanesyan soon enough. That will shut us up!
Honest answer is we simply don't know how good Crawford is at 147, his legacy is stagnating as he fails to get any signature fights. He should at least be fighting Porter, Thurman or Danny Garcia if he can't get Spence. Those are all great barometers - a KO win against any of those 3 would do wonders for his resume. I had hoped this rumours of him fighting Pac were true but nothing materialized.
I will note there were things in the fight against Mean Machine and the first 3 rounds of the Kell Brook fight I did not like which embolden my view that Spence will beat him. His margin for error against Spence is very small.
He's done absolutely nothing at 147. He's finally not weight bullying at 140lbs and now he's fighting people near his size he's not willing to take the toughest test... Amero weighbully fraud at it again!!
Okay I'll bite... They're not quite the same thing, but they're pretty closely related. You can never truly know how good a fighter is without a resume capable of illuminating their limits. If they lack feats but you've seen their limits with less than stellar fighters then you know they're not all that. If they lack feats but have cruised through everyone in front of them (with or without ducking involved) you don't truly know how good they are - only how good they've needed to be. Feats are what establish greatness and highlight just how good a top top fighter is. IMHO!
He is a knockout artist at 147 if you look at his record. Honestly I think he could be no 1 at the weight currently despite not getting in the ring with the PBC folk.
