    Kevin McBride - 271 pounds

    Danny Williams - 265 pounds

    Brian Nielson - 260 pounds’

    Sammy Schaff - 250 pounds

    Lennox Lewis - 249 pounds

Do these bouts (aside from the McBride fight) give any indication as to how Tyson would have fared against modern super heavyweights that weigh over 249lbs?

Apart from the Sammy Scaff fight, Tyson was physically and mentally shot to pieces by the time he fought the others.

No. But at 5'10" and 215-220 I think he would test the waters at cruiser today. No manager would want their man giving up 20 to 30 lbs in every fight no matter how great they are.

In the 80s, Tyson weighed the same as most of his opponents. He started losing to these guys because his conditioning was poor and his body was breaking down. Giant dudes throwing their weight on him probably didn't help when he was having knee injuries.

Against Ruddock, Tyson suffered several injuries too (missing out on a title shot against Evander in 91) and was on this path to physical decline before prison got him out of the ring.

No Tyson was far too jacked to fight as a cruiser, he would have had to drastically changed his eating habits, his biceps would have been smaller and weaker, his was almost the perfect heavyweight in terms of speed, power and fundamentals.

I see a fit active motivated Tyson doing OK, even against the biggest guys. Speed and power were his attributes and they'd still see him ok. It's his mental health that would probably see him fail!

I'm sure you know most "cruisers" today are 210-215 after the weigh in. Tyson was 215 when he knocked out Holmes in maybe his best performance.

Tyson's performances undeniably started to suffer the more weight he put on as he was not training seriously. He was 220 when knocked out by Douglas.

Can you name any heavy turning pro today at 5'10" 212 lbs? I can't. Be realistic. Tyson had the power and durability to compete with anyone on a given night, but there is no way any trainer worth something would put their guy up against 40-50 lb disadvantages every fight.

Also...Tyson never had impressive biceps in his youth anyway. He didn't have those until he was older after prison. Has nothing to do with his boxing as he was very leg dominant.

Like Louis and Marciano and so many HW champs before him, he would be a cruiserweight if he had come up in the last 20 years. Either way while it would not be a shocker by any means I can never pick theoretical best form Tyson over best form Wladimir, for example.

I agree. No way he ever makes Cruiserweight comfortably not to mention he was blessed with the speed and power to hurt anyone.

To your original question, Tyson was a shell of himself against McBride, William's and even Lewis. If Andy Ruiz can beat Anthony Joshua with his hand speed and power, prime Tyson could as well without question.
