Why is Canelo still not a household name? He`s like the Mayweather/Pacquiao of the current era.

Maybe boxing is not a mainstream sport in the UK now?

Explain why not. If I am wrong I will admit it but you are not proving anything with one word answers.

This is a Wikipedia article on the demographics of Mexico. It backs up what I was saying.

Your response was just dumb. Ask 10 people to picture a Mexican person and all 10 will visualize a dark haired and darker skinned individual. Ain't nobody gonna be like, well, wait, there are gingers and black and Asian Mexicans.

Did you read the article? Most Mexican immigrants to the USA are mestizos but that does not mean there isn't racial diversity in Mexico.

There are indeed white Mexicans, Asian Mexicans, Jewish Mexicans, Black Mexicans and every mix in between.

One third of the Mexican state of Guerrero have some Asian genetic markers.

Read this article about immigration to Mexico.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_to_Mexico

It might open up your mind.

Not every Mexican looks like the Frito Bandido.

I take it you did not read the article.

Uneducated people might think that. Spend some time there. You will see it's not exactly how you think.

Canelo has had two super fights that mainstream sports fans worldwide would be aware of (via ESPN, yahoo news, SI, BBC, other mainstream crap) and those were Mayweather and GGG.

He lost ten rounds against Mayweather and 8 against GGG.

It's impossible to be a household name when you're dominated in the two fights that received global attention.

That never happened to Mayweather, Pacquiao, Oscar , Tyson , when they were working their way to super stardom .

Boxing has steadily eroded in popularity in the last twenty years, aside from Ali and Mike Tyson, there's not really been much in the way of household names worldwide, where people that don't follow boxing would know who they were.

No one in my family aside from me would be able to tell you who Mayweather and Pacman was, let alone Canelo.

They might know who Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are, but that is geographically localised to the UK - AJ being on the google ads probably makes a big difference there, and stuff like Jonathan Ross show etc etc

They might have know who Naz was around his time, but I'd be surprised if they would have known Hatton, Calzaghe, Froch.

They would know Eubank Snr because of the TV programme and his eccentricity and the Michael Watson tragedy.

But generally the average joe really doesn't know much about boxers unless they transcend the sport some way, or there are localised reasons.

A random sampling of ten people would have thought the world was flat at one time

    Didn't make it true.

Truth exists outside of what ten random people think.
