McKenna (who was fighting last night) said he wants to follow Hearns boxing style.

    Seems a pretty aggressive style..

School me on his boxing style since I don't know much about Thomas Hearn or his style

Hearns style was a bout setting up his devastating right hand, he had an amazing jab and a great 1-2.

So a right hand like Wilder mixed in with some actual boxing skill? Dangerous...

Hearns is my favorite fighter btw. Since he was an anthropometric freak i wont advise a fighter to imitate his style, unless he got same reach, power, speed and height advantage in his weight class.

Against Duran. I like "the war" too and was butthurt that Thommy broke his right hand in the first round, the fight could be much more competitive later on, since hitman had power to hurt even Hagler.

A tall for his weight, fast, POWERFUL, boxer, that could actually use lateral movement and box.

Just wish he didn't have to skip leg day to make weight... Fading late against the occasional legend, and world class inside pressure were some of his weaknesses.

What a legend. Sadly fought professionally until 2006 having turned pro in 1977, but went out winning for what it was worth.

Basically this. I completely LOVE Hearns boxing, I have no words to define who much I like it. But it's not enough to "want to", you need a special anthropometrics conditions to be able to, plus the power. And what's needed is not very common.

    Kronk style
    Stressing good balance
Jab thrown up from the hip
Rt hand always in position for a big shot.
    Ripping hooks to the body
Excellent footwork on the balls of feet

Thomas Hearns jab is under appreciated due to the fact that his right hand is a war crime.

    Hearns jab was multi-dimensional.

He could flick out his jab as a stinging deterrent, use the jab as a range finder for his right, use his jab to maneuver opponents into or out of position or use it to simply punch people in the face.

Best fighter from the neck down in history with a jab like no one else. That punch was a weapon on its own

I honestly think Hearns had the tools to be unbeatable at 147/154, but his iq was letting him down a little. He wasn't a stupid fighter, but if he was a little more cerebral like Leonard he would never have lost at those weights and he might have beaten hagler

No matter what the records say he did beat Ray in their rematch and for what it's worth, I would pick hearns to beat srl 9 out of 10

He did the same maximum leverage thing that Wilder does with the right hand for a left hook to the body, which I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned more.

Hagler really did expose him...but then Marvin was a proper beast.
