We never got to see Lennox fight an elite southpaw in the pro's but with that said, I just don't see Byrd beating Lennox. Lewis's physical gifts and how well he used them makes this a completely uphill battle for Byrd. I just think at somepoint that overhand right lands.
This is a good point you make. I also picked Lewis to win by knockout but on second thought, Byrd’s fluid movement and south paw stance might make Lennox Have to work hard for the win. This may not be the mismatch some think it is
Lennox would have won, BUT he would have had to train really hard for Byrd. It wouldnt have been an easy fight, and after Vitali, Lennox had cemented his legacy, and had his health and wealth, so he retired and I don't hold it against him.
The more I think about this fight, which could have been (although, King might well have sought to put a spanner in works to kill it off, had Lewis called his bluff), the more I consider Lewis taking the $1M instead, as being a humanitarian move, on his part. But - seriously - I think Lewis would have been keen not to drag this horrible fight out for any longer than it needed to be. He could finish Byrd earlier than Ibeabuchi did, and in more devastating fashion; meaning, there'd be no arguing with the ref, from Byrd - he'd be too busy being attended to on the canvas - oblivious to the fact.
I feel like Lewis wins a decision, but looks bad doing it. Misses lots of shots and stinks up the place
Manny Steward said Byrd was even suitable to be sparring partner for Lennox Lewis. The fight be a blowout. Byrd hadn't the power to punch his fist through a baked alaska
