Not a bad fight. If Donaire wins he will be the oldest campeon to win the bantamweight belt 38 years old beating Gerry Penalosa by 2 years. When Gerry beat Gonzales he was 36.
Nonito will wreck Oubaali. Stylistically Donaire is all wrong for him. Sure Donaire hasn't looked great in recent years, although he managed to turn the clock back against Young, Burnett and Inoue. But part of the reason why he's looked so lackluster is because he's had to face an endless barrage of runners or guys who control range well. Which forces Donaire to be the aggressor, which is a role he's not comfortable in. But the reason he had so much success against Inoue is because Inoue is an aggressive fighter. Well so is Oubaali, and he gets hit clean a hell of a lot more than Naoya, and he also doesn't hit as hard. If Takuma's featherfists can shake him up, recklessly walking into one of Donaire's money punches and eating it full force, might be devastating. Donaire by brutal KO, possibly even early.
Hang on a minute maybe Rungundeux will be the oldest Bantamweight campeon if he beats Casimero. This is heating up! Rumor have it that rungundeaux is 50?
Good bantamweight action starts with Donayri next week. Donaire will look to land that left hook and look horrible if his timing is off and his shotness begins to show again. You can also look forward to Inoue vs Dasmarinas and Casimero vs Rungondeuax in just a few months away.
So if they both win do we get the long anticipated rematch. If so does Mauricio Sulaiman create the Ancient WBC championship belt for the winner.
I am more interested in the undercard bout between Matias and Jukembayev. Could be a FOTY Contender. When it comes to the main event, i dont think Donaire can win this. The Inoue fight was very hard and he is old. Maybe, this was to much. I have the strong feeling, that he will look very, very old.
I think Donaire is being over sold a bit here. He got to the WBSS finals because of a few lucky breaks and then performed above expectation against Inoue, but still lost clearly. He really hasn't beaten a world class operator convincingly since 2012 and has had persistent trouble with lefties. Oubaali is well-schooled, strong, hard-hitting, and a southpaw. Couple that with Donaire's mileage and I think it is Nonito who is more likely to get stopped here. Oubaali is a hittable, however, so I wouldn't be shocked if Donaire won.
Donaire wants to be undisputed champ, sees KO win over Oubaali “I have a dream which is to be the undisputed bantamweight champion, and at 38-years-old I think I am capable of doing it,” said Donaire in a story on *******.com. “The first step is on May 29 against Nordine Oubaali, a good fighter, but he’s never faced an opponent like me, and then we are definitely going to pursue a rematch with Inoue and gather the rest of the belts,” he said.
