Watched the highlights with ESPN commentary and the commentator got way more excited and gave way more emphasis to anything thrown and landed by Ramirez whether effective or not. There's no wonder a lot of people thought it was a very close fight. Every time Taylor landed except for the knockdowns, the commentator described it as if every punch was unremarkable "Taylor lands a left" versus "AND RAMIREZ SCORES WITH A HARD SHOT TO THE BODY". Just disgraceful. Who is this clown?

    Joe Tessitore.

Teddy Atlas even gets fed up with him on Fight Night commentary.

ESPN is Bob Arum's house band. He started with them in 1980.

Top Rank has its own section on the ESPN+ app.

Ramirez is a Top Rank fighter. Arum doesn't have to share him with Warren.

When Taylor won, all the announcers could talk about was Taylor needs to fight Bud Crawford (another Top Rank fighter) next. Not Teofimo Lopez (who no longer exists in the Top Rank world).

That's why Tyson Fury (deal with ESPN and co-promoted by Arum) showed up and was given so much on-air time. That's why Lomachenko was given so much coverage.

It was a "house" show. Joe Tessitore is a lap dog. There was nothing neutral about it. All ESPN cards are house shows these days, unless they buy TV rights to a random fight card from Europe.

Good to know, I'm not really familiar with US coverage but it seems biased commentary and judging isn't just limited to Sky/Matchroom. I have to say though I noticed it even more so on this fight, but that's probably because I'm desensitized to UK commentary bias and usually supporting the "home" fighter. Must be a nightmare watching Sky as an "away" fighter supporter :)

I thought Ward and Bradley were fair although Bradley saying each fighter was hurt after every landed punch was annoying

Yeah, Bob Arum started the first boxing show on ESPN (ESPN's Top Rank Boxing) when it began in late 1979/1980. Other than brief periods here and there over the last 41 years (for a couple years Kathi Duva supplied them with shows, and for a period PBC did), he has basically been the boxing supplier for that network.

So what Bob says tends to be the rule of law when it comes to boxing on ESPN.

Unless, like I said, they pick up a card from overseas to fill in the holes.

Joe Tessitore is the worst shill, though. And that Mark Kriegel, who does the profiles, is a close second. That guy is annoying as hell. His profiles are so ham-handed and the sappiest crap ever. He tries to make someone jumping rope or swimming laps in a pool just the most amazing thing you ever saw ... and he DRAGS ... EVERYTHING ... OUT ... BECAUSE ... HE ... PAUSES ... SO ... LONG ... BE ... TWEEN ... Words.

Every profile is a "Boy and his Dad" ... or "Fighting For his Family" ... it's just formulaic and like he's reading a story to children.

    Awful.

Drives me nuts. Tim Bradley is fine. But Tessitore is the worst. And Kriegel makes me want to stick a pencil in my neck. (LOL) When his profiles come on, I change the channel and come back five or six minutes later.

The US is no better than the UK. They're both biased.

    This is literally EVERY network.

Always thought Bernstein would keep it real at all times, but he's been slipping.

Have y'all heard the DAZN crew? The worst example is Sergio Mora creaming his panties over Ryan's looks.

Mora and Mannix have argued on air like petty high school chicks.

    Paulie still the best, imo.

It's a shame because it actually skews your enjoyment of a fight if not careful. Commentary should be unbiased. I wish someone would poach Mike Costello from Radio because his commentary is far and away the best to me.

Fite TV were terrible, they had Ramirez sweeping the first 4/5 rounds (I had Taylor 3/2 after 5).

The commentary was very subdued after the 2nd knockdown as well, and NADA about Bayliss giving Ramirez extra time on the KDs!

Assume they are affiliated with ESPN / Top Rank.

But let's be clear here - this is the same on the other side of the pond too - some of the Sky commentary has been just as bad if not worse!!!!

Ehhh don't get your trousers all bunched up over it. The fight was definitely competitive but you're going to have some partisan commentary. Not a big deal, it's only slightly less problematic when contrasted to what's happening down at the Gaza strip.

Non biased commentary is increasingly rare. In all media everywhere always.

    Clown world.
