Olympic gold in a heartbeat.

 

Actually, he probably might not make as much monetary wise but he'll live a better life because of how Gold medals are rewarded in Russia. They're accorded a lot more respect.

 

Olympic Gold Medal is the highest amateur ranking. After that, you either fade away as a nobody, or pick it up a notch and turn pro, and maybe someday become champion, and maybe then some.

 

That's funny. One of my old coaches won a Silver Medal on the 1976 US team and didn't turn pro. He was career Army, stayed in the Army until the 90's and then retired. Now he trains Darnell Wilson, was in Tony Thompson's corner this weekend. Just because you choose not to take part in a blood sport where you risk your brains to entertain people who by and large know nothing about the sport, outside of the hardcore fans, hardly makes you a nobody.

Sorry. Just think people have a misconception of what amateur boxing is and how it works. In a lot of ways it's harder than pro boxing.

 

A fighter can get so many chances at a world title, but only one to get a gold medal.

 

Likely because it still retains a purity to it. Very pretty ceromony.
An Olympian amateur does it for his people and country. A professional fights for himself.

 

Olympic pride if you love where you're from.

World Title if you love money.

Sounds like an easy one for me.

 

Vladimir Klitschko won both, the gold medal in 1996 and world titles as pro.

 

No way it’s harder than pro boxing. I would rather be a unified champion than Gold Medallist. Because it’s much harder to accomplish and it means that you are the very best in the world. Olympic gold in boxing don’t mean you are best boxer in the world It’s like in soccer where world championship is much harder to accomplish than winning an Olympic gold.

 

What makes it harder to accomplish? The politics of it? Being promoted right and moved right so you get the right fights at the right time? That's the thing with the Olympics. You can have a tough draw your very first fight, there's no avoiding anybody.

 

Amateurs become pro's, pro's dont become amateurs. In that sense, id like to be a champion at the ultimate stage and thats a professional world title. Asked wether you would like to be the undisputed HW champion of the world or the best amateur in the world by winning an olympic gold, the choice is easy for me.

 

I would rather win a gold medal than a world title as winning a title doesn't mean a hell of alot these days but i would rather be unified champ and recognised as the best in the world in my division than win a gold medal.

I suppose i would chose this as i prefer the pro game more. The pro game appear's harder to be recognised number one in than the amatuer game. More rounds, greater variety of fighting style's. I could be wrong as my experience of watching amatuer boxing is rather limited so im all ear's (or eye's as im reading of a screen) if anyone want's to inform me otherwise...
