I'm a little surprised Matchroom are pushing him as a next potential PPV star, I think lack of potential options is playing a massive part in that. 1. He's not good enough to win a genuine world title, let alone have a sustained career at the top of the sport 2. He's in a division where vacant belts are hard to come by and competition is usually fierce 3. I don't think he's particularly popular or likeable- he's got the Benn name yes but that's about it He does come to fight though, is entertaining, so has that going for him but overall a chronic lack of experience, lack of ability and the division he is in will all work against him. Once he loses, I think a non world champion, at 147, fighting on PPV is a hard sell unless it's a huge fight or there are some very particular circumstances which attract people to a specific a fight...
I agree, it seems a strange horse for Matchroom to back unless his numbers are genuinely good and we’re just not seeing it. They are on a slight drought of prospects at moment until the brand new ones come through like Dalton Smith, but at Benn’s level you could argue that Cordina, Buatsi and Felix Cash are probably better prospects with a higher chance of success. At the end of the day, if Matchroom puts enough work into it they can hype anyone to a good level.
Hearn and Benn are going to every boxing retirement home and looking for past it, faded old names to pad Benns record and justify his move in to PPV/Bigger Money. The problem they have is, most people are seeing through it, they have no excuse not to fight either good domestic rivals or if they insist they are above that level then the likes of European Champion Avanesyan. Smacking around Ortiz isn't going to impress anybody, it's ridiculous if you are claiming to be world level or even fringe world level.
I understand the sentiment about Benn not calling out Avanesyan, but there really isn't much incentive for Ava to fight Benn. Avanesyan is IBF #5, WBA #8, WBC #6, WBO #8. Who knows, maybe he'll get a good payday against the likes of Crawford, Porter or Garcia next.
Nothing against the kid but I'm praying for some kind of Paulie Malignaggi-esq incident with the beard. Someone's gonna bash him up and there will be bumfluff all over the gaff. Only a ****ing div who's been blessed by god with a smooth chin would want hair on their face.
I thought it was a bit strange getting a beard transplant at 23 since a lot of guys beards don't really take off until later in life. Must admit I've totally went off him for not fighting Marku.
Has a go at Khan for fighting Billy Dib and Phil Lo Greco and then proceeds to mention as possible next opponents; Devon Alexander (last fight June '19) Roberto Guerrero (last fight Sep' 19) Victor Ortiz (last fight Feb '18)
Trying to get an American fighter by the looks of it to build his profile over there, probably so he can keep calling out Porter.
He never mentions David Avaneyson. What is his character, at times tries to play the gangster, and other time this down to earth person who misses his family. Not keen, will be carefully managed to a title no doubt.
I've been impressed with Benn over the last 12 or so months and I think he's come on tremendously...... credit where it's due he clearly has been working hard with Sims in the gym. However you are right, you hear absolutely zero mention of Avaneyson's name..... So how can you mention the likes or Porter etc but then not take a 2nd look at Ava who's the European champ? I don't think Hearn fancies the risk of that whatsoever
To be fair Benn generates good numbers according to Hearn and has nothing to gain from a Marku fight Marku needs to catch up before he gets that fight
