How different would have Tysons career been if he hadn't fired Rooney?

the guy was never the same after splitting from rooney and combined with the prison sentence made it worse.
dont know what the personal issues were but splitting from rooney looks now to have been a big mistake.

Why can't people let go of Tyson? He had the world at his feet for a while then blew it. I'm tired of seeing this same debate over & over, it's as if people want to re-write history. I don't believe for a second Tyson wouldn't have imploded as a fighter at some point anyway. It was always in his genetic make up to do dumb things. Yes with Rooney he may well have got through the Douglas fight & faced Holyfield at the right time. Then again he may have not, Tyson wasn't turning up to training sessions prior to the Douglas fight so, Rooney or not, he may well have lost anyway.

But it just shows the lasting impression Mike made, not just for what he actually did but also that great "what if" factor.

Many people find it endlessly facinating.

I disagree actually. The Tyson debate has been done to death whereas Haye is actually going to fight again.

I think he would have lost to Bruno in 7.

    A couple of things.

Tyson's style was a young man's style. It calls for a young man's reactions and a young man's body. Patterson suffered terrible back-problems as an older HW and his version of the style was much less aggressive than Tyson's - who "broke his back", as we all know. I think that Tyson starts to fade regardless of who is with him. As a younger man he only started looking for "that shot" late in the fight. Later on, it was from round one. I see something simliar, regardless of who is with him.

Secondly, this idea that Tyson "doesn't go to jail or get married to the wrong woman if he had a different trainer" is pretty much bull****. Yes, he could have benifited from having people who cared around him - we all could - but the man had serious mental difficulties based in his upbringing and Cus's indulgance/mis-handling of the young man he was. Tyson had mental difficulties and issues and a style not suitable for longevity. What happened would most likely have happened regardless.

Tyson fulfilled the potentiol that was available to him as a package, though he did not fulfil his potetiol as an athlete. **** happens.
