The worst one I have ever see on network television live was Muhammad Ali vs Henry Cooper on May 21 1966, it was broadcast on ABC's Wide World Of Sports from Arsenal Stadium. Lots of blood, Ali had some on his white colored boxing trunks, and on him. Referee George Smith did the right thing in ending it. Henry was protesting the stoppage. Cooper received 14 stiches. The other one that I recall was Sean O Grady vs Jim Watt on Nov 1 1980, for the WBC World Lightweight Title, it was stopped due to a head butt, and excessive bleeding on Sean's part, ruled a TKO.

Sean O'Grady against Shig Fukuyama gets my vote for the most blood shed in a fight. O'Grady was about to bleed out when he stopped Fukuyama.
I saw a very odd cut occur once in the gym. Two heavyweights were sparring and really get their money's worth, good hard work. I had 2 guys shadow boxing in the mirror so I was watching them and leaning against the ring.
They were right above me and I could hear the punches, then blood spattered on me and I heard one of them swear. One guy had his left eyebrow split open. There was over a century of experience at ringside so it got stopped and patched right away, but it was weird because both guys were wearing pillow gloves and headgear.
I think it was a headbutt. They were fighting close and neither knew where to put his head; they both had the habit of leaning in and pushing with his head to create room. I think that they were both pushing and the guy's headgear slipped and he caught the head right behind it.

Sebastian Lujan's ear looked like he visited Texas and got too close to a chainsaw against Antonio Margarito

Yeah that was a bad one. I remember Lujan screaming in pain in-between rounds.

Badou Jack against Marcus Browne was as bad as I have ever seen. It looked like he had an butt crack in his forehead.

Alan Minter's face after 3 rounds with Hagler was just in awful shape. It's hard to believe that anyone could do that damage in 3 rounds of boxing. Every punch landed seemed to cause a cut, bruise, or swelling. Colin Jones face after 4 rounds with Donald Curry was in bad shape also, it's been awhile since I've seen it. Those white guys from the UK always seemed to be bleeders.

I’m going off memory so please correct me if I’m wrong:

I saw a fight on I think ESPN: Johnny Lira vs. someone, maybe Pedro Acosta. One of them — Lira I think — sustained a cut to the side of his eye and it must have been right on a vein, because blood was literally spurting out. His trunks after a few rounds had turned red, but I think it somehow went the distance.

Anybody know which fight this was (if it wasn’t Acosta)? And which got cut?

There was some fight I read a reference to where the TV announcer (Don Dunphy maybe?) at one point said something like: “So-and-so is in the white trunks with the red blood, and so-and-so is in the green trunks with the red blood.”

Of course there’s Rocky Marciano with his nose literally split down the middle against Ezzard Charles.

And am I remembering correctly that Riddick Bowe, despite being battered above and below the belt, literally punched a hole in Andrew Golata’s check? Like clean through?

Yes, Minter s cuts were bad. No way could he have made it much longer.

Henry's cut definitely one of the worst Richard. Once Ali started letting those fists fly, that was game over.

Also not a cut, but what about that second head that Hasim Rahman grew in his fight against Evander Holyfield?
That thing was scary, anyone know what that giant lump was?

Back before COVID, the gyms in my area would intermingle often, for sparring. Obviously when you're training with guys every day, you don't wanna go all out on them because you're in there to learn with them, not take their head off. But when other gyms send their best guys over, there's a bit more of a competitive air about the place. The worst array of cuts there ever was (yeah, there was more than one), was in one of these instances.

These two had a deep, and genuine dislike for one another and to my understanding, it was over a girl. These two lads, Roy and James, were both excellent young fighters. James was like 19-1 as an amateur at the time, had been doing it since he was like five years old and was a good two stone heavier than Roy. Roy, a southpaw, is about the same size as me, has a gypsy bareknuckle background and all the toughness that comes with, as well as being a very talented individual. Easily the best I've ever been in with. Anywho, these fella always went as hard as they could on these interim days and my coach has always had the attitude on these days where he just let's them go at it until the bell goes.

I remember the cut opening, vividly. James stepped in deep with a massive overhand and Roy shifted his weight back to avoid it, and then back forward with a massive left uppercut. James' eyelid literally had a hole in it. Whilst, James stepped back and tapped his eye to see the blood, Roy feinted to the body and James panicked, dropped both hands and Roy came straight up with a right hook which caused the guys cheekbone to swell underneath the headgear. Roy split his lip with a one-two, and busted his nose with a heavy jab. He lacerated his eyebrows with something and there was a vertical gash down his right cheek. It was that eyelid that was the worst though. When we stopped and took the headgear off, everyone saw James' bloody mess of a face. His eyelid was more or less in two pieces, and he told us he couldn't see out of that eye. We asked why he didn't tell us to stop it, and he said he just wanted to keep hitting him - not that he landed much after that.

He wasn't from our gym, so I didn't hear too much about him after that. He was rushed off to have his eyes sorted somewhere - dunno if it were the hospital or just by one of his trainers and taken back home. I did hear that the girl they were fighting over went and visited him though  Roy was livid

Imagine mauling your competitor and the girl you fought for still picking him. Man, that must suck :(
