Showtime did such a great job with the recent Sonny Liston and Hector Camacho documentaries, I can't imagine this one being bad. I can't wait to relive some of these great moments from when I was a young dude falling in love with this sport. Looking forward to discussing it with you all.
Episode 1 was phenomenal. Lots of old amateur footage in particular of Hearns that I have never seen before. Can't wait for Episode 2.
Same old boring hyperbole about the same 4. How about a nice nice 10 part series on these Fab 4s; LIMON/CHACON/BOZA/NAVARRATE or GALINDEZ/LOPEZ/SAAD MUHAMMAD/MARVIN JOHNSON Accept for Duran more exciting fighters and more vicious rivalries. And something different for a5 change. PINTOR/GOMEZ/ZARATE/DAVILA
Hopefully its not produced, directed and edited by Ray Leonard Jr. Been there, done that. Ill definitely check it out.
Actually, the first 15 minutes were focused on Leonard and I had a bit of a this going to suck moment but it got better. The focus on the first episode is setting up the paths for all four. Leonard's Olypmic Golden boy appeal, Hearns freakish size, Hagler's being good, black, southpaw and avoided, Duran's love of Panama and hatred of all things USA due to the Panama canal. So far it's nothing new but for me other than some of the amateur film but it's a trip down memory lane and certainly better than Floyd Mayweather vs some YouTube guy.
I agree those would be great fighters to do documentaries on but I get why they are going with the fab four. It's all about the crossover appeal and because those four were atg's that actually fought each other, they captured the general public's attention unlike guys we have today that are content to just hold a title and not fight the best.
I know but I still get disappointed w the same drivel. Never different. 4 fighters the same time one with his entire great career BEHIND him and glossed over in 2 minutes. A great 4 to do to match that would be old Olivares with young prime Chacon, Arguello and Little Red. All but Alexis & Lttle Red fought and like Duran to a degree Rubin's best days were a weightclass below where they all were fighting.
I would love to see that. AA is one of my all time favorites and that whole LA Olympic Auditorium scene from the 70's with Chacon and Red was a cool part of boxing history.
I lived through that time so I'm not that interested in seeing the spin put on it by agenda driven dupes. Whenever Leonard's name is mentioned everyone kneels in adoration.
Just saw the four episodes and although i knew manny of the things there its was still an interesting watch certainly better than watch youtubers fight although not as good as"The Last Dance"as a docu series.
Part 2 was better Both focused too much on Leonard big suprise there. Dont understand showing all the one sided political nonsense
