Floyd Mayweather: When Canelo fought me, he was in his prime, I was an old man. I wasn't in my prime

You're not green when you have 40 fights are the champ of the division and are a top 10 P4P ranked fighter.:deal: Stop!

Canelo wasn't green, but he was weight-drained af. It's a very good, but not great win for Mayweather because he didn't beat Canelo at his best weight.

It's a great win PBF was 36 and faded in his 5th weight class and dwarfed in the ring. Canelo wasn't weight drained FFS it's not like the fight was at 150 it was at 152 which was 1 pound less than what he weighed in for his previous fight with Trout. The weight draining is an excuse. Canelo just got a boxing lesson by the hands of a master and it was arguably one of the best wins of the last decade. Lets see if Canelo at 36 takes on a P4P top 10 ranked fighter at a higher weight when he's faded and see how he does.

He was still weight drained. Canelo was already struggling to make weight before the Mayweather fight & only did it for life changing money. Like I stated, it's a very good win but not great. If he had beat Canelo at the 154lb limit, I'd give him full props & call it a great win. No hate. Just facts.

lol Alvarez weighed exactly one pound less at the weigh-in than he did in his previous fight. Alvarez himself said making weight was no problem and, in fact, being lighter would help him against Mayweather because he would be faster. Alvarez being “green” is a better excuse than him being “drained”.

Don't forget, Canelo is the one that said he would do the catchweight initially. Floyd just held him to it. Don't know if the fight would have been made otherwise, but that is a fact.

What pbf said was 100% true. Beating canelo easily at 36 while being faded and old is a great win and accomplishment

In hindsight, this was Floyd's last truly great performance before the substantial decline set in. I've rewatched the fight a few times and he didn't have the ability to sustain the movement nearly as well as he once did, but the defensive skills during the stationary moments were sublime.

Canelo may not have been as good as he would become, but he was still elite. And it was a fantastic win for Floyd.

It was an excellent win but Clen has definitely improved & gotten stronger * since then.. craft is perfected with experience.. & with the help of a cattle farm in Canelos case..

i think anyone who believes the Canelo that fought Floyd is the same Canelo that is fighting today is pretty delusional.

how can it be a passing of the torch fight when Floyd was favored to win that fight?

Pac vs Spence would be a better example of a passing of the torch fight.

Pbf wasn't prime he was 36 but you continue to leave that out. Canelo was supposed to be the next big star which he was. He just ran into a master with a horrific stylistic match up. Oscar-pbf was a passing of the torch fight as well.

yes, Floyd was slowing down at the time. . . it was an amazing win for him . . but Canelo was not in his Prime at the time they fought. He was still a developing fighter and lacked the experience to take on someone like Mayweather. Would the results have been different if they fought lets say . . . 3 years later???? Maybe not, but if the fight took place later, Floyd would have actually beat a version of Canelo who was truly in his prime.

But thats not how it happened. Canelo was drained to 152 in their fight. Canelo has improved significantly but he's still flatfooted as hell. If Canelo can hypothetically go down to 152 and fight a prime Mayweather he'd get schooled again
