If you want to press the issue on the Canelo Cotto scorecards, then tell me how many rounds you thought Cotto won and which rounds they were, and I'll take a look. A common theme in many Canelo matches is that a lot of his rounds are difficult to score. He rarely gets outclassed or dominated in a round, but he's patient and doesn't typically throw a lot of punches, so you can probably find a handful of rounds to give to Cotto if you really are looking to find rounds to give to Cotto. But I don't think there were any more than 1 or 2 clear Cotto rounds. If there were a couple of toss-up rounds that could have went to Cotto but went to Canelo based on ring generalship or clean punching, it doesn't make the scorecards a disgrace. It just means there's possibly a couple of hard to score rounds that probably could have gone either way. So if you want to make your case that Cotto won more than 1 or 2 rounds, then tell me which specific rounds he won and we can go back and review these rounds and determine how close they really were.

You don't understand there are levels to being prime. You have beginning of your prime, at the peak of your prime, and at the end of your prime! Last is past your prime. Canelo was at the beginning of his prime. Mayweather was past his prime. His ring iq and skill set is what kept him winning. Mayweather is one of those few fighters that can still fight past prime because of ring iq and skill set.

No matter how anyone wants to spin it a naturally smaller 36 year old beating a younger stronger 23 year old is very impressive.

Cut it out CJ lol. Mayweather never ducked WIlliams or Margo. Mayweather had a chance to fight Baldomir for 2 belts and the ring magazine title. That fight actually would had been for undisputed but Baldomir lost one of the belts for failing to pay for sanction fees. I think every fighter would have rather fought for the titles instead.

Everybody seems to have a different opinion of when Canelo and Mayweather's prime started and when Mayweather's prime ended and where each of them were when they fought. You have determined that Mayweather was past his prime in September 2013. If that's the case then when did his prime end? It's difficult for anyone to pinpoint exactly when Mayweather's prime ended because he maintained himself at a high level well into his 30s and never lost a boxing match. Pacquiao on the other hand, we know precisely when his prime ended, it was in 2012, when he was flattened by Marquez. And the fight before that he lost to Bradley, even though it was a called a robbery. Still from a P4P standpoint, 2012 was the turning point in the debate for who was P4P #1. Before that, it was a heated debate between Mayweather and Pacquiao as to who was P4P #1. Once Pacquiao got KTFO by Marquez, Mayweather became the clear P4P #1, at least between him and Pacquiao. Then the next year he beat Canelo and that only solidified Mayweather as the P4P #1. So it's hard to argue that Mayweather fell out of his prime around the time he became the clear P4P #1. His wins over Cotto then Canelo did not indicate he suddenly fell out of his prime.

There was never any moment in Mayweather's career up to that point where there was a clear indicator that he suddenly and drastically become dramatically out of shape. There were marginal decreases in speed from fight to fight but never a dramatic drop off from fight to fight. You could point to the 2nd round vs Mosley, but then you look at how he recovered from that and dominated the rest of that match. Now I'm sure everybody has their opinions about when Mayweather became "past his prime" but this is very debatable and open to interpretation. The end of Mayweather's prime was not obvious like it was with Pacquiao in 2012.

As far as Canelo, what disqualifies him from being in his prime when he fought Mayweather is that he was not fighting at his normal weight and he was still developing as a fighter. You cannot be considered "Prime" when you have to kill yourself to make a catchweight like that. You could argue that Canelo began his prime when he fought Trout and since then it's been a slow and steady rise towards his peak over 8 years. But if that's the case then you would have to remove the Mayweather fight from that equation especially if you believe Mayweather won easily. It makes no sense to argue that he began his prime by losing to Mayweather while drained at a catchweight. That was a Work-in-Progress performance against a far more experienced fighter, not a Prime performance.

I will say that I think it's hard to pinpoint exactly when Canelo entered his prime, because it was really a slow and steady rise over a long period of time. And on the same token it's hard to pinpoint exactly when Mayweather ended his prime because it was a slow and steady decline from his peak. With Pacquiao, his prime was not hard to pinpoint, it was between 2008-2012 and I think most people would agree on that. But when it comes to Canelo and Mayweather, it's harder to pinpoint and for everyone to agree on when his prime was.

But what we can agree on is that neither Mayweather were near their peak when they fought. Many have said that Mayweather was closer to his prime or still in his prime, but again that's debatable. But the idea that Mayweather was an old man and Canelo was in his prime in 2013, no. Both Mayweather and Canelo though arguably were near prime or near Peak for a very long perod of time, or anotherwords fighting at a very high level, for much longer than most fighters can even be considered in their prime or close to their prime / peak.

Canelo 23 physically prime. Canelo 23 boxing iq still learning not prime.
Money 36 physically not prime. Money 36 boxing master prime.
throw in the old cliche styles make fights. And canelos style will never mesh against Money. Hell Canelo style did not mesh with Lara who I think won that fight.

Give Canelo a fast mover with enough punching power to keep him honest and its a problem. Canelo has been walking through these feather fisted guys as of late.
