He's certainly the better fighter p4p, but has Taylor's complete rule of his division given him the resume edge over Super Joe's incredible WBO run?

You have opened floodgates even mentioning Taylor in the same breath as the great “Super Joe The Fighting Pride of Wales” & somehow also called the...“Italian Dragon”

    Really? Italian Dragon huh...

In my opinion we should wait until Taylor’s career is over before comparing him to any past greats.

calzaghe is a great SMW, but his resume outside of that is rubbish.

Kessler, Hopkins, Eubank, Reid, Lacy, Mitchell, Jones Jr , Brewer, Bika, Woodhall

    Or

Prograis, Postol, Ramirez, Baranchyk, Vasquez, Davies, Martin, Khonsong

Hmm. I say Calzaghe now but I expect Taylor to surpass him

    Mikkel Kessler I'd say

Eubank, Hopkins, Lacy, Reid were very solid wins too

    i agree.
kessler was the best fighter he beat who was in his prime, but hopkins at 42-43 was his best win

All speculation, but I'd predict Kessler to go through Hopkins early 40s resume quite easily. Hed outbox Taylor, drunk Pavlik easily. KO old Jones and Winky. 40s Bernard wasnt that special.

you give kessler too much credit.
he was a limited puncher and NOBODY looked good against hopkins.
no way would kessler outbox jermain taylor.

Kessler in his prime easily outboxed Froch. Now granted Froch wasnt nearly as fast as Taylor. But there is a reason Kessler only lost to p4p caliber fighters.

    Not yet IMO.

Getting undisputed is some acheivement for Taylor, but looking at names & depth he's still a wee bit behind - as to be expected Zags was around a long time; it's actually pretty ridiculous that Taylor has squeezed so much into 18 fights that folks would even suggest as much.

Let's do a little name balancing (Taylor's wins on left):-

Miguel Vasquez : Chris Eubank Snr - I think a faded Eubank is a better win for Calzaghe here, although Taylor did stop Vazquez

Viktor Postol: Robin Reid - a toss up this one. Taylor wasn't as wide as the scorecards suggested, and although some folks say Reid beat JC I had it clear to Joe. Both great scalps.

Ivan Barancyk: Byron Mitchell - Barancyk is a beast, but Mitchell was a great win for Joe as well; it should have been unification coming off of Mitchell's robbery against Ottke (same as Reid and Charles Brewer actually!). Mitchell stopped Frankie Liles so I give this one to JC.

Regis Prograis: Charles Brewer - another fight that JC should have had that was unification, Brewer being horrifically robbed in Germany. Brewer was hard, but I give this one to Taylor, I rate Prograis highly

Jose Ramirez : Mikkel Kessler - IMO Joe's second best win, and unless Jose goes on to do better things it's hard to hold him higher than the Viking Warrior

So that's Taylor's 5 best wins, which still leaves Calzaghe with the following that outweigh Taylor in depth:

Bernard Hopkins - Joe's best win IMO, 1st time in US, 1st time @ 175 and although it wasn't pretty it was a clear win.
Jeff Lacy - unbeaten but probably overrated - Zags performance that night was so good and the beating so bad it ruined Lacy, who knows what he could have went on to do if he had avoided Calzaghe. Calzaghe's absolute best performance, he was A+ that night.
Sakio Bika - hard, hard man that even SOG Ward struggled mightily with.
Ritchie Woodhall - underrated win for Joe IMO

no, kessler won a tight decision in denmark and was outworked in england.
make a poll and ask the board if kessler "easily outboxed froch" and guess what comes back at you.
