Let's give it a year or so and see which up and comer will offer him a boat load of cash for a match.
He should have retired after the Whyte win… It would have been a great way to end a quality career… He was a mess in the rematch.. it shows how good he was in his prime that even at 40 he was starching men like Whyte
Mental that he never won a title considering the likes of Charles Martin got his hands on one. Great career regardless
Excellent fighter who gave a great account in his career. He’s level headed and I wish him all the best in retirement.
A long list of wins over top 10 contenders throughout his career. I never expected him to dethrone the Klitschko's though. He had the power, but like Haye, I think he was a bit too short for Wlad, and not quite durable to keep up a sustained attack.
He has always shown great respect for his opponents both in press conferences and in face offs as well as during fights. Always at the top of the division rankings. Very skilled fighter.
He got a rematch clause, so he couldnt avoid the rematch, but he was done before the rematch. This for me ia not an avening loss by Whyte sorry. Great run Povetkin and enjoy your retirment.
Actually he was official champ, at least Olympic Games champion, gold medalist and World Championship gold medalist and young pov had competed and had been tested in depth also in countries like Australia. Very good body mechanics. He initially at high level was more known as am KBer, switched more to am boxing and really had long mileage under belt when he had turned in pro boxer. He is relative rarity in combat sport: high level am KBer who had also Olympic Gold medal and was World Champion in am boxing. While some lads formerly more known as KBers too were notable pro boxers, like Huck, Briedis, Pov was something unique: he achieved unbelievable stuff for former am KB lad: Olympic Gold medal in boxing.
My all time favorite fighter. A hero to Russian kids and anybody in the diaspora. I will miss his fights so much . But I am so happy he will not take any more damage, and I will always have the fights during his career. A future HOFer and a great for me.
He took the right decision, but I will miss him. I am a big fan. He was a guarantee that you were going to watch a good fight.
