Ward a weight bully was he ? Despite fighting guys in the olympics that were way bigger than him? Virgil Hill said Ward was eating big meals to compete at light heavy in the amateurs. The only reason he fought at light heavy is because his stable mate Dirrell was campaigning at middleweight. And wtf is 178 pound olympic medal? Its called light heavy and Ward weighed anywhere between 165 - 178. Ward fought Clementine Russo , a legitimate heavyweight in those olympics. you're a disgrace to call him a weight bully .
These ward haters are too much. Made up every excuse in the book as to why ggg shouldn't fight him. Then dared ward to be great and to move to 175 and take on a killer in kovalev who they all picked to ko ward. When that didn't happen and ward took kovalevs soul like Shang tsung on mortal kombat they were full of excuses and hate and said ward must beat this guy or he's a fraud. It's hilarious.
Hey GENIUS. This thread isn't whether Ward was a weight bully as an amateur. The question in this thread is why didn't he move up to light heavyweight AS A PRO sooner? All you did was prove my point. Ward moved up to 178 as an amateur years before the 2004 Olympics. YEARS before the Olympics. Where he won the gold. You listing light heavyweights and heavyweights he beat as an amateur only support my point. He wasn't fighting guys WAY bigger in the amateurs. They weigh in before every fight. Everyone he fought weighed less than 178 the day he fought them. If he was winning gold at light heavyweight and fighting heavyweights like Clemente Russo in the amateurs, why IN HELL did he turn pro, dry out 20 pounds and weigh in at 159 against small middleweights? So he could rehydrate and pick up belts in smaller divisions. (But even he couldn't keep it up at middleweight and had to go to super middle.) That's what weight bullies do. Fighters who are the best in the world at 178 - like Ali, Holyfield, Jirov, Tarver, etc. - and who beat the best amateur heavyweights and light heavyweights in the Olympics and medal, are supposed to turn pro at light heavyweight or cruiser and move up from there. They aren't supposed to dry out to FREAKING MIDDLEWEIGHT a year later as a pro and try to fight lesser guys so they can pick up easier belts. That's what Ward did. Ward was fighting at 178 - which is a higher than the professional light heavyweight limit - for YEARS as an amateur and beating the best 178 pounders before he turned pro. Then he dries out 20 pounds for his pro fights? Classic weight bully.
I remember when Oscar De La Hoya won the gold at 132 pounds, and when he turned pro, he campaigned at 130 and went after a belt there first. And people at the time were like "What a *****. He turned pro and moved down in weight?" That was TWO whole pounds. Ward initially dried out and went down 18 pounds (LOL). Total *****. In 2008/2009, Ward should've been angling for title fights against either of the heavyweight champs Vitali and Wlad, or Tomasz Adamek at cruiser, or, at the minimum, Joe Calzaghe at light heavyweight (which is still three pounds below where he fought as an amateur), like other Olympic light heavyweight medalists did in their day. Instead, Ward is fighting Shelby Pudwill and signing up for the Super Six in 2009 basically 10 full pounds below where he won the gold medal five years earlier. The term "Weight Bully" should have Andre Ward's photo next to it. Clearly, fighting even slightly above light heavyweight hadn't been a problem for him since 2002.
Light heavyweight in the Olympics is 165-178 who's to say he didn't weight in at 168 for every single am fight? Can you prove otherwise?
Lineal doesn't mean anything when you go on a bum tour for 4 years unifying zero times and paying your mando step aside fees multiple times.
Oh stfu you always want fighter's you hate to move up in weights but never have a problem with your favorite fighters lmao
Ward moved up to face Kova TWICE when will ggg Beterbiev and the rest of your crew will grow a pair and do the same??
No dummy , the fact he fought guys naturally bigger than him in the olympics makes you look like a fool for calling him a weight bully.. He could have easily made middleweight , i already told you why he didn't.. stfu about 178. . He could have weighed 168 for all his fights.. You don't have a freaking clue as to what his exact weight was. He made 160 maybe once or twice since turning pro. After that he was a career super middle weight where he never looked any bigger than his opponents.. If he was a natural HW then so was Carl Froch who was bigger than him. Even 5 years after retirement Ward still looks like a super middle / small light heavy. He's not a big guy. Everything you posted suggests you have some serious issues regarding Ward.
Why Ward is considered to be enough capable at LHW? Because he " defeated " or defeated Kovalev while being hometown A side fighter with proper officiating and proper judges and ref? I always laugh at boxing fan boys posts like " he took soul " etc bull****. LOL, it is more funny than to read a lot of posts here. Might he beat 30-35 y.o Beterbiev or Gvozdyk version before fight vs Beterbiev? Talks in internet and all this PR stuff is nothing much worth. Canelo avoided some fighters, then he picked shot Kovalev and sorry, not Canelo or Ward had processed Kovalev. These guys were Eleider and to the some extent Yarde. These also had at least processed him without any questionable things and with a glance. I think Gvozdyk, not alone 30-35 y.o Beterbiev versions were not passable for prime Kovalev, also for Ward, sorry, he was very popular in US but he is not enough large for modern LHW division. While the same Kovalev had been considered as crusher and Gvzodyk as a boxer, this too I think had been too much for prime Kov. While Kov was great boxer, yeah, he was. Clenelo too had used Kovalev and moved back, dudes like not enough old Beterbiev or Gvozdyk versions are too much for him. Okey, now Beterbiev is 36 and looks is old, so proud mouths might be open. Nothing wrong, weight classes exists for a reason. Only yeah, how fans judge this usually depends from_________boxers origin. Not from boxing.
Irrelevant I think because when he moved up he fought and beat the best guy a feared undefeated champion at his peak. Worked him out and stripped his invincibility.
