Charlo obviously didn't train as well as he should have, hence his bad reactions getting downstairs and generally poor stamina. I think he's better than that but also that he's on the decline. The focus and fire aren't quite the same as they were, and that's a lot of what he has.

Charlo said before the fight he wanted “some rounds in on this fight “.
Charlo most likely felt after the 6th that this kid is not going down so let me get them rounds.

Decent fight and Montiel impressed me and Charlo got his rounds and Win

This is a big problem with a lot of fighters. They move their careers so slow that by time they reach the top of the sport they are already getting old and burnt out.

I've honestly never been too high on the Charlos, they have been protected and not willing to do what it takes to make the big fights happen. However last night was a very good high skill, dog fight. Montiel came to win and was no pushover, guys that lay down or just wanna see the final bell, don't go all in the last couple rounds. Jermall showed glimpses of top level close to elite skill, and when it got really tough he had enough in the tank to push through. Now after this, he needs to fight a top dog to see if there's any bite in that bark... Also, I loved the respect he showed to Montiel after the fight, that was the way a grown man acts.

i think Covid layoffs for most of these guys who were not dedicated & disciplined coming back really show as well.

notice how Canelo & Inoue look like they haven’t missed a beat.

There is a reason they are ranked high on that Pound for Pound list and it ain’t popularity.

Look the man fought the fight of his life and was a very determined opponent who wasn't going to lay down.
Charlo tried but the man had alot of heart.

I for one enjoy watching someone put it all on the line win or lose.
It was his big opportunity and he seized it as best he could-he left it all in the ring.
Charlo would have stopped MANY boxers that night but his opponent was hungry and determined.
I for one think Charlo passed the heart check and I'm not even a fan.

YEARS ago a little known South Korean challenged for the lightweight championship against Americas sweetheart at the time.
EVERYONE mocked it. The press. The boxing magazines. Made fun of the Koreans name.
Fight was suppose to be a show case - a stay busy fight. 3/4 rounds at the MOST.
Somebody forgot to tell the Korean that.
Ask RAY MANCINI about supposed soft touches.

Charlo has been protected abs is overrated.
He fights once a year which is suspect regarding peds

his best win was a war-worn deverychenko. Back to back to back wars diminished Chenko.

Montiel has no business being in there with an elite 160lbs which is why he was in their with charlo, whom is not elite

I feel many of the sentiments here. The charlos are far from the worst fighters in boxing. Very good, actually. My problem is that he was talking about wanting to be recognized as one of the top, if not thee top, p4p fighters on the planet. I am sorry, but a dog fight against a Montiel ain't going to cut it, regardless of how wide the cards were. If the claim is that the charlos are good but not the best, Mall can be forgiven for yesterday's fight. However, the claims are they are among the top.

I give charlo credit for his grit and power, but his head movement and overall defense were shaky to put it lightly. He is 31 now, so he is going to have to start fighting the top dogs now before he leaves his physical prime.

Charlo clearly had an off night. Not sure it means much.

Lots of us followed all his fights from when he started in the pros. I agree that GGG is still really strong and tough, but he's also a lot slower. Speed in boxing is really important and can mean the difference between being able to force the action on another guy and having to time him because otherwise he sees you coming. Golovkin still has the thudding power but the snap is mostly gone. If you watch him in the amateurs you'd be surprised at just how fast he was. If he'd started his pro career just three years earlier I think it would have made a big difference.

Let's be honest here. The Charlo stock can't drop because it's not even high. The only people hyping Charlo up are either his fan base OR the people around him & his promoter.

    Charlos Top 3 wins are
    1. Derevyanchenko
    2. J-Rock
    3. Trout/Korobov

Three of those four wins were razor close (SD, Trout, Korobov). And two of those four wins were at 154 where Jermall was some kind of a weight bully to be honest. You can probably make a case for him losing at least one of those four fights on the cards but he got the nod everytime.

Charlo hasn't really fought anyone at 160 yet. Derevyanchenk is a good win but as i said the fight was razor close and SD isn't an elite fighter at 160. He's a good fighter but for sure not elite. Solid B level.

Seeing how Jermall struggled with guys like Montiel or Korobov is a sign that he will get clowned once he fights an elite guy.

The question is...when will Jermall step it up? Will he? I think he knows he's average at best at 160 and will get his head smashed in so he's fighting either B level guys like Derevyanchenko or even C level guys like Montiel, Hogan, Adams or Centeno.

There is no reason to be excited about Jermall Charlo at this point. He's not even a "prospect" anymore. He's 31 years old. It's all about protecting the 0 now.

He's a fake champ and personally i don't even watch his fights anymore. Why? Because he's winning the decision anyway and fighting guys who probably don't have the power to knock him out.

Montiel is a former Super Lightweight. Yeah...correct. Montiel started his career at 140!!! Not saying he's a small guy but come on....

Step it up, Jermall or you're just useless and not exciting at all.
