In terms of technical skill, conditioning, bravery etc.? I will say the performance I saw that impressed me most was Pernell Whittaker vs Julio Cesar Chavez. Seeing Whittaker going in there against the pound for pound number one at the time and dominate left me in awe. Another performance I found very impressive was Roberto Duran Vs SRL 1. I'm not as much of a Duran fan as many but it appeared to me that there was a guy that really digged down deep to the sole of his boots and did everything that he could to win in terms of intelligence, skill, technique, bravery etc. There are other performances that stand out as impressive to me Barrera vs Morales 1 for the heart involved, Foreman vs Ali for the impertinence, Pacquiao vs Barrera 1 for the athleticism etc. but in terms of the variety of attributes I was most impressed with Whittaker vs Chavez, what is your favourite?
Archie Moore v Nino Valdez in terms of big man little man was a fun fight to watch. Archies ability to adapt that fight was something to watch. Mayweather v Delahoya Mayweathers ability to avoid getting hit just left me in awe.
Whitaker-Chavez is a good call. I have no standout favourite, but a few others that pop up straight away: Duran vs DeJesus III Sanchez vs Gomez Kalambay vs McCallum Jones vs a bunch of guys but primarily Toney (I don't get the same feeling from this one, since I enjoy technique more than athleticism, but he's just so superior that you have to acknowledge it) Pac vs Barrera and Cotto
Whenever I see these type of threads BHOP always comes to mind not so much for being an exciting fighter but for how he just simply dominated high level opponents. Trinidad, Tarver, Pavlik, Cloud, Joppy, Holmes etc were all world champions that were completely and thoroughly defeated by him. In most cases, he won every round.
Tommy Hearns out-boxing Benitez, the science in that bout was insane and Tommy blowing away Duran in two rounds, the perfect search and destroy knockout.
Sanchez vs Gomez Frazier vs Ali FOTC Norton vs Holmes Bowe vs Holy I Prior Arguello I Roberto Duran Vs SRL 1 And... I don't think this fight necessarily qualifies, but I rediscovered it yesterday, and it's pretty great to watch: This content is protected
Trinidad vs Hopkins is up there on my most impressive list, always impressed by the boxing IQ of BHOP.
Pac Man vs.Hatton. Seriously thought Hatton would outgun him. Never have been so surprised at such a one sided fight. That and Hearns Duran. Am i stretching this topic too far If i mention Leon --Ali 1? Lots of points to ponder with that fight .... but Leon had only I believe 6-7 fights. I wish I knew the odds on that one.
The Roberto Duran show: 1.Duran ko DeJesus III, systematically broke him down 2. Duran Leonard I , an A+ performance, best fight I've seen in 40 years from a lightweight to beat the 2nd best welter of all time 3. Duran simply outclasses a bigger, stronger and younger Moore. 4. Roberto beats Iran Barkley , a fighter who he physically has no business being in the ring with . His adjustments from the 9th round on were from a master class boxer and all time great. Honorable mention: going 15 rounds with one of the top 3 middleweights of all time and losing a close UD.
