Saturday in Guadalajara Mexico the consensus number one 112 pound champion Martinez defends his WBC belt for the 3rd time against relatively unknown fellow countryman Joel Cordova. Martinez was originally supposed to make his 2021 debut against mandatory McWilliams Arroyo, but suffered a hand injury a few days before the fight and the fight thus was cancelled. Should Martinez win, a Arroyo fight could happen later in the year - presumably on Canelo vs Plant. Joel Cordova despite having a modest record has mixed in with decent opposition.....although having modest results: KO defeat to Mauricio Lara, KO defeat to Dewayne Beamon, KO win over former champ Juan Churritos Hernandez and NC (although technically he won and it's unknown whether the Mexican boxing commission will ever overrule the results) over former title challenger Martin Tecuapetla. El Rey will probably break down and stop Cordova in the mid rounds, but it should be fun as it lasts. This content is protected This content is protected
