If true then all fat or lower muscle type fighters would never hit hard

Plenty of muscle types out there who don’t punch hard

Why did Lopez struggle so much when Loma started throwing then?

Lopez twitched his way out of a rematch and twitched his way out of his most recent fight. Twitchy mother****er for sure!

When i say that i mean muscles can add on to technique. Muscles by themselves can generate force and deliver more force by adding more enegry to an action, but as I've said it almost always has to do with Technique. Thats why fat fighters can train to generate more force by putting their weight behind their punches.

I hit significantly harder with more muscle on me. I usually kept my weight down, but 1 summer, I put on about 5 kg of solid muscle whilst still boxing.

I was hitting harder on pads, albeit smaller, hitting harder on the bags. I could feel the impact on my wrist and shoulders more than I had to wrap better.

Sprinters build muscle to run faster.

This whole muscle doesn’t build power is a myth perpetuated by those who’s never built muscle and boxed at the same time.

There's a part of me that wants to hug you. I've always noticed the ethnocentric undertone to your posts but I never found it to be disturbing. What you just posted was quite nonsensical.

Teofimo does seem to be on another level from all/most of Lomos opposition. That is true. However that is only true for my eyes because of their actual fight. Going into it, I thought little of Lopez as he had really only fought one ranked fighter. But to deny it as the case now is to wrap a pillow sheet around your head.

    This.

In addition to excellent speed and reflexes, Teo also has formidable punching power. Nevertheless he's scarcely, as you so aptly put it, a freakish athlete ala a young Roy Jones.

Indeed, I'm not altogther convinced he has faster hands or better reflexes than Loma, despite the not insignificant age disparity. Loma definitely possesses quicker and more educated feet.

    Thoughtful, well argued post.

If I had a quibble, and at that it's not disqualifying, it would be that I do not consider the 135lbs version of Loma "levels" above Lopez. While Loma is objectively the more skilled technician, Lopez's athleticism, size, and sheer physicality---attributes that can often influence a fighter's "level" as much as technical skill---put him on par with the gifted Ukrainian.

All things being equal, however, and with the benefit of firsthand experience, I do believe Loma will decision Lopez in a rematch.

So let me get this right, when Loma won the junior lightweight and defended it eight times in a row successfully he wasn't too small, but when he loses it to Teofimo then he is too small ?
