Absolutely true. Roy check hooks an incoming Marciano in round 4. Rocky struggles out of the arms of Morpheus at the count of 12.
IMHO, Rocky ends this rather early. I really don't think Roy can hold him off for very many rounds, but he might look pretty good for as long as he does. The relentless pressure and punches that hurt wherever they land would take a heavy toll on Roy.
I actually do believe that Roy Jones is an All Time Great talent. But, no way he wins this fight. The longer it goes, the worse it gets for Jones.
jones has no shot here, Rocky would wear him out in the clinch and stop him the first time one of his bombs connect.
At an age past when Marciano was retired. The wheels come off for everyone. Marciano didn't stick around long enough to find out when that was. Wise man.
Marciano doesn't have near the speed or balance when attacking for a prime Roy, and I mean even a Roy at 160, to totally clown him and likely stop him inside 6.
Roy on points, with ease, Marciano stands no chance of ever connecting. Roy will make Marciano look like an absolute bum
Seamus has a healthy respect for boxers with skills. I've seen it in a lot of his posts. On the other hand I don't know whether he weights the intangibles enough. Things like toughness, stamina, workrate, chin, heart. Marciano is off the scales on those, whereas RJJ is the opposite. If Jones was clever he'd box a six round exhibition against Marciano and most observers would say Rocky could never beat Jones.
Walcott Charles and Moore had that misinterpretation as well. They were wrong and at least admitted as much after (except maybe Charles who came off as sour grapes). Once again you put out misinformation. Marciano was not an off balance fighter when prime. It was a problem he faced early in his career and was corrected. An off balance fighter gets knocked down and out often and also doesn’t have mean KOs being off balance all the time. That’s exactly the opposite of Marciano. He also wasn’t slow other then his last fight. More medium range speed. He certainly wasn’t as slow as say Liston or Ortiz. Any way Marciano overwhelms Jones and wears him down. Eventually hits home.
Oh, are we talking about Roy as he is today, an old man like Walcott, Moore and Charles, versus prime Rock? Yeah, Rock wins. I didn't know that was the context.
Those intangibles you speak about are irrelevant cause Marciano simply lacks the speed and skills to land. Roy will pound on him all night, and Marciano won't be able to lay a single glove on him.
