I used an hyperbole of course. In any case Tyson, Foreman and Liston are among the best hard hitters ever. Who says Tyson's power Is overrated Is an ignorant.
He was quick for his size, but he's not on Louis, Tyson or Floyd level in terms of handspeed. Are you sure you've seen all Louis KOs? Some of them were absolutely one punch stoppages. Louis could shake your head with a single jab and every single punch he had possessed deadly power. The difference between peak Tyson/Liston and peak Louis is around 10 lbs. If he belongs to them in P4P sense, then he also does in absolute terms.
I never said he's on their level, I just said he's not that far away. Yes I am sure. He seems a bigger puncher due to some of the small guy and/or bums he KOd, like for example Paycheck, Ramage, Galento etc He couldn't miss Galento with a punch even if he wanted to I love Tyson, but he's also not top 5 for 1 punch power as far as I'm concerned. People need to understand that what made guys like Tyson and Louis great wasn't so much punching power as it was combo punching and incredible precision, accuracy and timing. That doesn't mean they aren't big punchers, they're definitely top 15, just not top 5.
Is he the hardest puncher of all time, probably not, but he had mad power. I mean who else did what he did vs Holmes? Shaver couldn't keep Holmes down and nobody else after Tyson could stop Holmes even though he boxed on for many years afterwards. A big part of Tyson's power came from his delivery but it also came from his speed. Remember power equals force x speed and while he probably didn't generate as much force as some bigger guys like Foreman and Lewis he had some of the fastest hands we've ever seen at heavyweight. Now if you were saying Tyson's ability to generate force was overrated yes maybe, but with his build, speed and technique he was capable of generating power few boxers could.
Yes. Faster hands. Holyfield was 34 and coming off poor performances where he looked washed up physically. Tyson annihilated Mathis jr and Bruno with everyone thinking he was back to rule. Why do you think Tyson was heavily favored? Nobody was talking decline until Evander beat him. As to who was actually faster, I think Evander's superior stamina, timing, and infighting rendered any advantages Tyson had moot. Don't matter if your faster if the other guy is reading you like a book. The rematch WAS more of the same I agree. Tyson was without question in one of the finest physical conditions I've seen him, but that isn't what was broke in the first fight. Same problem Tyson always had...an absolute juggernaut of skill, and a physical freak of nature. He couldn't adapt well. No plan B. Tucker was the only time I saw him make an adjustment....but he had a great corner then. I agree again. Tyson was no quitter. I think he was looking for any advantage he could get and never thought in a million years he...the biggest boxing star in the world would get disqualified in the biggest fight of the year. He'd take the point deductions if he thought it would shake Evander.
Not sure it's youth or speed or one and there same ... Tyson's effectiveness was all about the speed with the power .. keep in mind he was a very short heavyweight fighting much bigger men .. his ability to get in and land was critical and his combination os strength, speed and power even surpassed Louis ... even as an older fighter in poor shape he was able to ice Bothra with a single shot and crunch Golata the same .. once the speed and the stamina to maintain it dissipated, he was shot ..
Like Earnie shavers and Cleveland Williams didn’t lift weights !!!! Ps did u taste the power of all these guys including Tyson to come up with this idiot rankings !!!!
Personally I don't think Tyson was doing a lot of weights until he went to prison. When you look at his physique before and after his three years in prison, he definitely has a lot more muscular bulk and definition after his release. I don't know what gym boxing work he was able to do in prison if any but lifting heavy weights seems something that's readily available inside.
How many times tyson get knocked out himself ? he goes down you might as well eat your bet ticket, least you'll have something on your stomach!
THANKS RICHARD.- Oh ya -AND HE WAS KNOWN FOR his punch HIS WHOLE CAREER, I learned a long time ago, people who really knew boxing did not say Quarry was good, they said he was great! people who did not know anything about boxing (Howard Cosell) WERE CRITICAL.
