Hes body mass wont be decisive factor thought. Hes only change for victory is that Toney would be completely shot. Any other scenarios Toney at 226lbs will UD him, or even KO him in late rounds.
Well put, dude. Toney is my favourite fighter but damnit these outdated methods of starving/running long distance just don't cut the mustard.
Sorry but as Rahman's conditioner I'll take everything you say with a pinch of salt. Toney coming in light is bad news for your fighter and you know it!!
This may be more of a key piece of information than I think you realize if you are right and the scale was heavy... If you are correct, and you may very well be, that would actually put Toney at around 220-222 and Rahman at around 238-240... As far as anyone knows, this may be the 1st time Toney fights without juice at Heavyweight as well... If Toney indeed is that much the smaller boxer (about 15 lbs lighter than their last meeting), and "Lights Out" actually looks like Rahman's conditioning trainer here described earlier; then Toney has obviously lost muscle (and still probably a lot of fat as well). This may mean that the Toney we see Vs. Rahman could be faster at the lighter weight, and may even show some signs of the slickness he had in his younger days still; but at almost 40, Toney could just as likely fade away before the 12th round, especially if the now much bigger, stronger Rahman pressures Toney with the 80 some odd punches the conditioning expert thinks Rahman can get off per round... Hasim Rahman would still have to deliver, by staying confident, not get rattled by how many punches Toney blocks and slips, and keep himself relaxed. Rahman also has to let his hands fly against the very crafty Toney, and by the sounds of dropping a dude, (was it 8 times in 2 days), it's possible that Rahman may be in form to do so... If Rahman at 35 can exploit his size difference, again while being patient, and can also pressure Toney to the body when they are on the inside, Rahman wins this fight... 2008 so far has seen many guys stopped who have never been stopped before, and for an aged Legend in James "lights Out" Toney, who started his Pro career as a Middleweight; I'm afraid it smells like it may be his turn... Problem though with Toney is; every time you count him out, especially based on size, he usually lands a Decision... At nearly 40 can he do it again...? It's possible, but not as likely this time around imo... I have a question for you Conditioner101... Did Rahman drop any of the other guys in sparring; and also any with body shots?
Coming in light and coming in shape are two different things. Just because Toney is at a lower weight doesn't mean he's in shape...as he might've (as suggested) crash dieted and could gas out early. That said I think Toney wins this one....or at least goes all 12 as I got the over 6.
Could be true, but lighter doesn't automatically equal better though...Bowe was at his prime weight for 235 for the rematch with Golota but didn't have the same strength anymore (Golota pummelling him in the first fight didn't help either). I have also always felt that Rahman coming in at 227 for Holyfield was too light for him. Doesn't matter how sculpted he looked, his shots lacked the same power and he didn't gain any appreciable increase in speed or stamina from it. I think these weights are good for both guys. Thought Rahman would be 239-240 but 244 is still fine (it's when he clocks in 250+ that worries me!)
I'm a bit disappointed coz I thought Toney was gonna weigh even less, maybe 5lbs less. He's right between his career high of 237lbs and the weight he should be at at HW, 217lbs. But in the end a couple pounds more or less won't matter much, Toney is in the best shape he can be at for this fight, and there's not gonna be any excuses.
Maybe not from you, but if Toney loses I can see the faithful having a selection of excuses to use - weight drained, ring rust, Peter did all the damage, hey he's almost 40 you know, and so on.
I would not call a age factor an excuse. Those excuses wont be needed though, because Toney is going to own him. :happy
more weight when your older?NO. LOSING THE ABAILITY TO SHED WEIGHT ..,NO mate NO!!!!! hes gained 20 pounds of fat in my eyes!!! toney at the same age came down to 190 at 35..,the rock is just no at pro at getting in top shape.., what was good before is good now!!!
I didn't read a prediction from you either, which is why I asked... It is a tough fight to call, and I wouldn't bet the farm either way in this fight. But I like Rahman's chances a lot more at this point in both boxers careers... Remember when guys stop competing on roids their performance often drops off... That's something I can't over look for a guy that's almost 40. Toney by far has the superior boxing skliis and natural ability, but in the Heavyweights, quite often that's just not always enough...
Looks like all that weight training didnt get him skills nor the heart to compete with James "lights out" Toney .
