Unquestionably number 1 but you can say that about anyone can’t you? What if Ricky Hatton beat Pac and Mayweather? What if Kell Brook beat Crawford, Spence and GGG? You could literally say it about any fighter you like - what if X won all their fights and retired unbeaten? Well yes they’d probably go down as one of the best.

Tyson never proved he was capable of achieving that, so we shouldn't even start this conversation. Your version of Tyson is hypothetical unknown fighter that has little to do with real Mike Tyson.

Undisputed champion

If that does not show "capability" then what does? Let me guess, Tyson Fury defending his invisible "lineal championship" against Sefer Smurfy?

 

When did Tyson prove to be good and consistent enough to beat the best of the best across 10 years span? When did he beat someone as good as Holyfield or Lewis?

 

Aside from a completely shot Mike Tyson and a post-prison Tyson who did Evan Fields and Lennox Lewis beat that were as good as a prime Mike Tyson?

 

Lewis beat Holyfield and Vitali Klitschko, they were better than any win that Tyson have.

Holyfield beat post-prison Tyson twice, Bowe and drew with prime Lennox - again, these are better results than what Tyson accomplished in his career.

And it is oxymoronic to be undisputed champ, yet have nine defence. By definition nine times his claim was disputed, thus he was far from undisputed!

 

He defended his belts, he unified his belts, he was undefeated, he beat everyone he was therefore "undisputed".

Not sure why you find it hard to follow that logic.

 

It is not hard: Undisputed means without dispute. So when challenged, his claim is being disputed, thus he cannot be undisputed!


He did not beat everyone, I did not get my payday!


He did not unify, he won the titles of various organisations.


Tyson was a very special fighter for awhile, and that required a lot of dedication, so the least we can do is not throw around a load of nonsensical clichés.

 

Tyson was the best of the 80s, Evander was the best of the 90s, Lennox Lewis was the best of the 2000s, Klitschko was the best of the 2010s. In a nutshell. I forgot the 70s it's up to debate but I would say Muhammad Ali. This is a ten year at a time assessment.
