The one I think most about is Charley Burley vs Sugar Ray Robinson. I try to think about it in as many different places as possible to see if the different surroundings result in a different outcome. Burley does best in a forest or very very far out to sea. It makes me sad I'll never think about it in space.

    Oh man- I mean.

Riddick Bowe vs (one at a time) Qawi, Enry Cooper, Bob Foster, Smokin Bert and Saad would be a fun 1v5 Foreman style.

There's loads I think of in terms of how they'd match-up with one another, but I tend not to massively dwell on them. I drift from fighter to fighter and match-ups with their peers tends to get included in that. One fight which I really like the idea of, but would fight offensive to watch, would be Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Jose Medel. An southpaw incredible out-boxer whose talent and skill wasn't really tested in his prime, but failed miserably when it was tested years later; vs a defensively savvy, counter-punching wizard who worked wonders off the ropes and was tested to a tee in the strongest era of bantamweights ever; both with massive power and fast hands, yet both seemingly leaving something of a sour taste in fans' mouths. I love the idea of them trying to figure the other out, bait them into making the first move, and showing off all of their tricks and techniques. The problem with that, is that after two rounds it would become apparent that neither are willing, or perhaps even able, to lead and so they don't. It becomes almost unwatchable as they stare eachother down, with mean intent. I think Rigo's better suited to a slow, boring fight. His long arms, faster hands and better jab would ultimately eek out a clear decision IMO.

Some which I think about more often, simply because they'd be insane, and making them would quite possibly be the first thing I'd be going off doing if I ever got a time machine.

Michael Brodie vs Naoto Takahashi; these two couldn't spell boring if you gave them all the letters. Brodie's insane, compact aggression vs Takahashi's Japanese pride. They'd exchange until one fell, either from exhaustion or brain damage. Possibly both. I have to back Brodie.

Paul Banke vs Nestor Garza would just be incredible. Another 122lb pair who just couldn't be in boring fights. Banke from the second Zaragoza was a man possessed, with grinding power, mean punching and unearthly toughness. He just walked through everything Zaragoza had and managed to bulldoze him down. Nestor was in some hellacious wars himself, and they're every bit as good as Banke's with Lee and Zaragoza. These two sluggers would combine for one of the most savage battles ever seen.

Thierry Jacob vs Mahyar Monshipour; another two at 122lbs  it's not purpose I promise. Jacob's ridiculous, frantic pace combined with Mahyar's equally ridiculous and frantic pace would just result in them banging away at one another for round after round. Monshipour's superior chin takes it, IMO.

Wayne McCullough vs Kelvin Seabrooks, all you need to know about Seabrooks is that he's like a mini-Saad Muhammad. Massive heart, lots of back and forth wars and come from behind KOs. Wayne McCullough's style is immensely entertaining, with an iron chin and an increasingly high workrate as each round progressed. Very short punching and aesthetic technique, too. I'd take McCullough to out-work Seabrooks, and there'd be no come from behind KO with Wayne's chin.

Imagine a match-up of the two best fights in last ten years, and you get Fransisco Rodriguez vs Akira Yaegashi. I actually have no idea who I'd back here lol

    Carl Thompson vs Vasllly Jirov

Gaspar Ortega vs Gil Turner, would be an immense, high-level war where neither will fold under the pressure the other inflicts. They'd just keep banging away, like Turner-Basilio or Ortega-Paret. I think Turner was probably a little bit better.

I don't think there needs to be any explanation for Frazier vs Holyfield.

In terms of combined workrate records, Yuh vs Matlala would shatter any and all records. By about three thousand. The two compact punching, subtlety skilled, elite fighters would really gel for an excellent fight IMO. Matlata's style is very close to DeMarco's IMO, and that's the sort of fight it'd be.

Everything about Chacon vs Gatti would be war. There'd be drama, knockdowns, action, and probably a KO. They'd ruin eachother, but my God would it be fun to watch.

I'd go with these 3 absolute maulers duran, chaves and lomotta individually. Each fight would be a absolute war, with atg chins and would all be masterful displays of agresive defense. Not even going to try call them, just letting the concept marinate.

Sure the obvious dream fights: 86 Tyson - FOTC Ali
    72 Foreman - 78 Holmes
    Louis - Liston
    Louis - Marciano (both prime)

Fights that never happend for some rason: Tyson - Holyfield (~89-92)
    Bowe - Lewis (~92-95)
    Tyson - Foreman (~89-91)
Fury - Joshua (awaited for what feels like 1000 years)

But also fights like: Holmes - Dokes (fit & clean)
    Weaver - Norton
    Charles - Holyfield (190 lbs)
    A. Moore - M. Spinks (190 lbs)
    + so many others

+ ofc i'm curious to see Marciano competing against decent intermediate sized ~80's HW like Mike Weaver, Tim Witherspoon, Ray Mercer... how he deals with the reach disadvantage.
+ I want to see how a post suspension Ali handles a peek a boo Fighter in his physical prime. He looked bad against J.Torres in sparring and kinda vulnerable vs a 37 yo Patterson 1972.

All the obvious: Frazier/ Marciano, Ali/ Louis , Monzon/Hagler, etc, my own would be Napoles/Basilio, couple of very tough bleeders !! keep well.

To answer the question between the lines; Ali at any time beats any Tyson. Don't even dream a Tyson victory.

Some intriguing matchups and interesting, dare I say 'unorthodox' picks.

For some reason, I've never really thought of Holyfield-Ali as a matchup (Holyfield-Frazier always seemed the more tantalising fight) but I think this would be a very good fight. Is it Ali in the 60s or early 70s that you're imagining?

    Benn vs Jones Jnr.

The outcome's a given - how we got there would have been interesting though.
