Not sure it's a change of trainer.... more so Callum is in the states and is linking up with McGirt whilst he's there. His brother Paul used to train with Buddy so the link is there. I know Liam also heads over to the states and trains over there....... he did it a few months back
Let’s be honest Buddy was a really good fighter and he’s an OK trainer. I really can’t recall any fighter that left one trainer and went with him and was blown away by the improvements. I like Buddy, I trained alongside of him years ago but he’s not that good of a trainer.
Callum Smith's bad habits are too ingrained into him and you can't teach an old dog new tricks. I don't think Callum is as bad as some people make out but as his career went on he became far too negative offensively with his high guard Joe Gallagher style. I think earlier on in his career he let his hands go much more fluidly and looked the better fighter because of it.
His performance against Alvarez is one of the most pathetic I have seen. Completely toothless. I've seen synchronised divers with more fire in their belly.
Dumb misplaced sense of loyalty. A boxer has a 10-15 year career. For the majority of that time he'll be scraping by barely making a decent living and there's probably a 1-5% chance he'll ever achieve anything significant. Meanwhile, a training can have a 40-50 year career collecting 10% from his fighters. In Joe Gallagher's case, he's also acting as Smith's manager too, so he's getting twice the money in two different roles. I genuinely would not be surprised if Joe Gallagher for more money than Callum did for the Canelo fight..... Therefore, it's no wonder he pushed so hard for a Canelo; he barely prepared his fighter and spent most of 2020 just talking up the fight rather than actually teaching Mundo anything to counter Canelo with. Infact go back to Youtube and you barely heard a peep from Callum Smith about it, It was his puppet master Joe Gallagher doing all the talking. All of the Smith brothers have a misplaced sense of loyalty to Joe Gallagher. ...and then Scousers wonder why everyone calls them dumb.
