Iron Mike could work hard for 12 rounds when in his prime, even when he didn't get things his own way (think Bonecrusher Smith & Tony Tucker). His ability to do that is one of the key differences between "prime" and "non-prime" Iron Mike.

There are a lot of reasons for why he moved from prime to non-prime the main one being a lack of focus (including no longer sparring with tough guys like Oliver McCall who offered the kind of resistance in sparring that other guys later on never did).

Holyfield's athleticism & conditioning would always win out over any version of Iron Mike that couldn't go 12 hard rounds.

From my perspective, Tyson 1986 to 1988 could go 12 hard rounds & I would pick him to win.

I like Holy but he was a ped cheat. Prime Tyson beats a clean Holyfield.

I dont argee that 90s holy was up there with counterpunching skills as mike and he was good at outboxing he gives young mike trouble with that style always

the young holy would lose cause he was a brawler and wasnt as tough for taking damage

I recall when the fight was first discussed I thought Tyson would blast Holy outta there. Now with the virtue of hindsight if Tyson can't KO Evander inside 4 he probably takes another azz whippin. I think concerning Tyson there's still a debate on his career, was he simply a different unfocused fighter after the Buster Douglas beat down and all his personal problems,,,,or was his weaknesses always there and he was simply exposed by Buster and Holyfield.
