The dude looks like an unstoppable robot programmed to last 12 rounds and handle any fight with incredible inner peace. Able to knock whoever out if he wants. One of the most underrated boxers I've ever seen in the last years. Whos going to drop Joe Joyce?
He will continue to beat top heavyweights and only lose to perhaps Fury. His biggest enemy is his age, he's 35 years old and maybe has a 5 years ahead of him as a competitive fighter. He will also continue to be underrated due to his slow speed and strange looking style while ignoring his good traits like size, toughness, skillful jab, power and workrate.
He will struggle to beat Whyte, Chisora, Parker, Ruiz, Hunter, Ortiz etc. Joyce needs to step up his competition to prove himself as a top contender.
I'd like to see him in vs Ortiz. There was talk of them fighting each other a while ago, both wanted it but Joyce's trainer said he needed a few more fights. Well he's had a few more fights and I think he could handle Ortiz's power and then take over and stop him. Chisora isn't much better than Takam and much like Takam will fade after a few rounds and Joyce will then stop him and I say this as a huge Chisora fan. Whyte would be a good test but I feel in a tough competitive fight, Joyce's superior chin and conditioning will see him come through on top. But it's a fight I'd love to see, both guys are great to watch. Hunter could be real tricky with his speed and movement. But will he want it? He ducked Hrgovic and Joyce too poses a similar level of threat. I'm a fan of Hunter but he seems to be now trying to only face journeymen since he left Matchroom.
Yeah Joyce has been stopped twice in the amateurs, both in the first rd. If you're going to drop him it's probably best to do it early before he's warmed up. There's a reason why guys tend to be cautious in rd 1, you can take shots in later rds that in rd 1 will KO you.
This was only my second time watching and I'm still not impressed. By the 5th and 6th rounds he seemed slow and was pushing his punches.
I've been watching him since before the Rio Olympics and I'm never impressed by him, there's nothing really flashy or impressive about how he fights. You want speed, athleticism, highlight reel KO's, dazzling combinations and charisma then need to look elsewhere. What he does well and leads to his success isn't flashy or impressive. He's a huge guy, he throws non stop, he has a very good heavy jab, he isn't predictable and throws with a lot of variety, his chin might be the best in the division, he moves better than most people realise and he has heavy hands. He's also sneaky. He hurt Takam at the start of that last rd with a surprisingly fast 1-2 which looked like it had no power on it, but it rocked Takam back. Joyce hadn't throw anything like it in the previous rds, that sudden switch in speed and rhythm caught Takam when he wasn't expecting and they say it's the punch you don't see coming that gets you. So I don't ever expect to be impressed by him, but I do expect him to keep winning in his ponderous and surprisingly effective manner.
I still don't see it lol i think he's lucky the division is weak ..I don't dislike the guy but can you imagine him mixing it with the 90s heavyweight s?
Outside of Joshua, Fury, Usyk and Wilder I dont see anybody beating him. Wilder has the elite power to stop him, the other 3 can outbox him. Joyce would overwhelm and drown everybody else in the division.
Takam was verging on being shot when Parker beat him, he is well shot now. It would be good to see Joyce vs a top ten heavyweight.
That's the next step I'd like to see too. Ortiz, Ruiz Jr, Whyte, Hunter or Parker would be the next logical step. But it's Frank Warren we're talking about here and Joyce is now the next WBO mandatory, I expect him to face safe fights until he gets a title shot if Warren does what he usually does.
